For the record I have the same reservations about the drinking theme as 67coach and I'm loving the above idea much better.

I know I'm joining the minority in this thread, but I too would like to speak out against the current drinking theme. We had an alcohol theme last year so I'd like to see something different. Just because the number 21 is involved doesn't mean we have to default to drinking.

For instance, 21 is the ultimate number in the game of Blackjack, and I bet we could come up with all kinds of neat ideas and images using a deck of cards and our Wings as inspiration. We could use the 4 and 3 of diamonds or hearts as a backdrop for Helm's number. We could use an Ace for our captain. All kind of possibilities here.

If we're gonna **** can the drinking age streak thing then I vote for Imported from Detroit. We already have that sick as hell logo that I think Bench created.

Gang, let's let Doc sort this out and go forward with his theme...we're still a month out from playoffs too. It's easy to suggest other ideas when you don't see his final design. I'm taking his side because this would happen if I didn't have a design made right away...the ideas would keep rolling in until I posted my final design. This was always my least favorite part of this process...everyone is an avatar expert.

Damn, calm down Shoalzie, I don't see any reason to completely squelch all dissenting opinions. Nobody said we're going to start a revolution against Doc. We're just pointing out that the drinking theme isn't necessarily everyone's favorite. You said yourself we're still a month from playoff time- so there's plenty of time to discuss and plan.

Besides, this thread is called "Proposal: Ideas for avatars". Not "Everyone jump on the drinking age bandwagon".

I was thinking the same. Something like 21 and up only
I know we did Dos Equis last year, but this seems logical.

Imported from Detroit is PLAYED. It's old. This year's commercial was stupid.

The #21 is stupid anyway.
The drive isn't to play in the playoffs. It's to win the Cup.

If there's a number, it's 12 --- 12th cup
Or 16- # of wins you need

The guy that makes the avatars should generally have the final say in the theme. If a lot of you are really against the theme...then put it to a vote. I'm trying to remember what year I did it but I thought I did a poll for what theme I was going to use.

And I say this again, not every theme will translate well into an avatar we can use on this particular board because of the file size restrictions. Everyone wants throw out their ideas but there has to be thought involved in how these will be put together and them look good.

All I'm saying is have the faith in the guy...the idea is being picked apart and we haven't seen a final design. He's got a lot of time to figure this out so I just be patient.

None of us argued that he shouldn't have the final say. We're all just giving harmless opinions. If he doesn't want to take them into account that's his prerogative.

Settle down there Shoalzie. The idea isn't being picked apart; a few folks are just pointing out that the alcohol theme was done last year. This is not a criticism of Doc or his ability to put together awesome avatars.

Lidstrom as the Lord (PSed to look all Lord of the Ring-y) and then the next slide as Return of the Ring...that would be awesome.

If somebody called what I was working on stupid, I'd just tell them to do it themselves. Good luck.

That's OK. I am a DIY kind of guy.
Shoalzie made great avatars that I never used because I always thought the idea for the campaigns were pretty silly.

The chances of me ever using one of these is slim anyhow

I'm not planning on using any of these avatars but let me come in and **** all over them anyway even though I really don't care.

Good work.

Says the guy with an avatar with a player's head popping out of a floatation device...

You generally thumb your nose at everyone else's opinions so you never using a playoff avatar didn't bother me because you can't break character of being extremely unlikeable and aloof. I can appreciate you at least sticking to your guns...I guess.

I apologize for being chappy earlier to those throwing out ideas...I know you guys mean to harm. Everyone gets excited about this time of year and it's great that (most) of this forum gets into the spirit.

Haha. Get a grip Heaton.

I offered my honest assessment.
I don't think #21 is a great idea because making the playoffs isn't what it's all about when you get there. It's about winning.

I don't think Legal to Drink is a good slogan, even if you go that route. I think, The Drinking Age is a bit cooler.

And no, I probably won't use them.

However silly it is, The Franzen Floater is going to be a big seller one day. I can feel it.

Someone mentioned going for 12 in '12 idea. Since it's all about Stanley that could work in somewhere.

Are you positive to anything involving the Red Wings? Go cheer the Islanders, Canucks or something.

To be honest, I'm not keen on the idea of equating the Wings playoff run with an alcohol theme as we also have posters here that are under the legal drinking age.

I would much prefer the Blackjack theme or the Impoted from Detroit theme

Just my opinion
There are plenty of fun and interesting beverages that are alcohol-free.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-alcoholic_beverage

http://www.drinkalternatives.com/non...ktail-recipes/

I enjoy a good Roy Rogers and an Arnold Palmer every now and again. There are also any number of "Red Kool-Aid" jokes to be made. Plenty of alternatives for those who are underage.

And I think that finding interesting European drinks for our overseas posters would add a nice twist.

Just my opinion.
