I want the Presidents Trophy

I'm sick of you guys saying the Presidents Trophy doesn't matter. It may not be the Stanley Cup, but its a good consolation prize.

It's in reach, and I think we should do EVERYTHING in our power to obtain it.

No it's not. The only good consolation prize for not winning the cup is a top 10 draft pick.

There's no such thing as a consolation prize. If you lose the SCF, you have something in common with 28 other teams in the league: you are all losers. The only thing a President's Trophy does to a team that doesn't win a Cup is that it will always remind them of what could have been.

And by the way, people have been talking about this in the Countdown to 50 thread.

I agree. It is another banner to hang in those empty rafters.

To fill it up, lets hang up 80 or so banners to show how we didn't win the Cup those seasons.

We already did that by scrambling for numbers to retire since the lockout.

I'm not much bothered about it. Sure, it's not a bad thing, but it's incidental -- if the Rangers keep doing what they should be doing and playing well, they should win it on the way to the playoffs. And then it will be the playoffs and no-one will care.

While I feel like it'd be great to get that trophy I don't think it should make you sick that people could give a rats butt about it. Too sensitive dude

I want the Trophy. Not because it means something special, but because I want to win EVERY GAME. The presidents trophy just means we did that better than anyone.

keep that thing away from me...
So that's 5 times in 18 years?

How many times has the 2nd best team won the cup in this time frame? 3rd best? And so on..

I bet 5 out of 18 is just as good, if not better than any other position.

I think we have legit shot at it and would love to see it. Don't risk injury or hank's rest to get it though. Just keep on doing what we are doing and things will work out

Hell yeah I want the Rangers to win the president's trophy. I don't believe that this season means nothing without a parade. Even if they don't end up winning the cup I'll always be damn proud of this season. As a Rangers, Knicks, Jets, Mets, and Red Bulls fan, I'll take anything I can get.

Do. Not. Want.

Let's face it, this is a young team, with little playoff experience, especially deep runs that are both physically and emotionally taxing. They'll be lucky to make it to the ECF, let alone go to the SCF.

If this team wins the Presidents and ends up with a 1st or 2nd round elimination, all it does is give the retards on these forums ammunition to claim the Rangers are chokers and the new Capitals, or Sharks, etc, etc. It would instantly springboard this team to "Cup favorites" or a "lock for the SCF" and that is pressure this young team does not need.

The necessary moves to make this team a legitimate favorite for a deep run, were not, and could not be made this deadline. They're still missing pieces, and within a year or two that could very well be addressed from within the organization, or though FA acquisition and trades.

If they end up in the SCF, let alone hoisting the Cup this year, I will be more than pleasantly surprised.

...and no this is not nay-saying or pessimism, it's a realistic and tempered expectation of what this team will most likely do this post-season. Let's face it, this team was pegged 7th-5th best seed by most people over the summer. We should be thankful for the fact they are going to finish top2 in the East (knock on wood), and happy that although this year is almost certainly not their year, it could be as soon as next.

wanna know why the president's trophy would be a good thing...look at the teams out west

det: 26-3-2 at home, 15-16-1 on the road
stl: 26-4-4 at home, 13-13-3 on the road
nas: 21-7-5 at home, 16-12-2 on the road
chi: 21-7-4 at home, 12-17-3 on the road

only team that is good home and away is vancouver

so the banner means squat if you don't win it all but if we make it thru the east having home ice in the SCF would be a huge advantage cause those teams are so much more beatable on the road then when they are home.

plus it gives you something to play for down the stretch...i wanna finish off the season winning like we've spent the 1st 60 games.

so you don't want the team to have too much success out of fear for what people on this board will say? seriously?

I do not want overblown expectations for a young team who is more likely than not, going home without hardware this post-season.

The stupid on the boards is just an unfortunate consequence, regardless.

If you lose the Stanley Cup Finals, at least you won the Conference Finals
