Who cares if we win the President's Trophy? Setting a Franchise record would be cool, but not necessary. This is one of the most fun years as a Rangers fan for me whether we win the President's Trophy or not.

Yep, don't give a rats ass about the Presidents Trophy though it would be a nice bonus. Priority number one is to win the division to avoid the 4/5 matchup followed by getting the one seed to guarantee home ice on the Eastern Conference side of the playoffs and hopefully get a matchup of one of the Jets or Panthers in the playoffs.

I want the #1 seed. If we get the #1 seed and win the first round, good chance we get NJ in the second round. If we get the #2 seed I think we draw Pittsburgh who I think will beat the Philly in at most 6 games with or without Crosby.

The whole breaking the team record thing, fastest start talked about by the NYR media, etc, needs to be compared to the organization in a historical context. That means, for 81 seasons the New York Rangers didn't have the shootout for an extra point, and for about 72 years, didn't have the overtime bonus point.
Let's set the record straight to be fair to the history of the organization and previous NYR teams.
We're on pace to break the 93-94 teams point total of 112, but when putting everything in relative terms, we're a little off the pace of the best performing NYR teams in history ('70-'71, and '71-'72).
When taking into account the pace for an 82 game season, no extra shootout point, and no overtime point, the prorated best seasons in NYR history are the following (min 70 games/'67-'68 expansion)
1970-71: 115 pace (109 in 78 games)
1971-72: 115 pace (109 in 78 games) 2011-12: 110 pace (82 in 61 games, 37-16-8 W-L-T format)
1993-94: 109 pace (112 in 84 games)
1991-92: 108 pace (105 in 80 games)
Flame away at perceived negativity if you will, but godda keep it in historical context to respect the history IMO, or, at the very least, subtract the new age bonus points. Same goes for Hank's win total, you have to subtract the shootout wins to be fair.
edit: and to clarify further, we won 52 in 93-94 (84 game season), and 50 in 91-92 (80 game season). We're on pace for 50 regulation/overtime wins this year.
And winning the presidents trophy would actually be important to me. Only in North America is the regular season champ never thought about ever again. In Europe and most of the world, it's how you determine a champion in any sport. The playoffs are more important, but being the best over a 6 month, 82 game span is pretty special IMO.

The two teams in the early 70,s were much better than this years team and the 93-94 team won it all. I rank this team as the 4th best Rangers team that I have seen. I might be a bit biased towards the 70-71 team since that is the first team I really followed passionately.

I wasn't around for those two teams, but the records don't lie and the roster is pretty awesome. Not that all the hoopla would really bother me to break 112 points, or the 109 those teams put up in the 70's, but I think when you have an organization as old and historical as NYR, you need to respect the history more than the made for TV shootout points or 4 on 4 overtime loss point.
