Seriously Tavares is an excellent excellent player, I am very impressed every time I watch him. Might not be a huge gap but Tavares has a slight edge imo. Kane has really dropped off this year and isn't even an untouchable in Chi Town anymore.
I don't know if Tavares is better Hall is projecting to be a better goal score as well as point produce Tavares seasons 0.65 0.85 0.97 Hall 0.62 0.93

Tavares gpg 0.29 0.37 0.40

Hall 0.32 0.44

fair enough. they are close, no doubt. I don't know much about Stamkos other then he is the best pure sniper in the league, today. Does he bring much else? i really don't know. In today's game, the best do more, a la Crosby and Toews, whom i would rate as #1 and #2 forwards.

Seguin is better than Hall.
No wait.
Hall is better than Seguin.
Actually.
Seguin is better.
No Hall.

They're both great young players. The sky's the limit.
I'm glad we have Hall - I like his personality and drive - but Seguin is excellent as well.
There's no use comparing them this early in their careers; it makes you look insecure if anything.

Totally agree, and that's got to be the explanation for it, because when you look at these stats that the OP posted, these are the ones that have an effect on the +/- IMO.

GOALS
Seguin: 20
Hall: 23

ASSISTS
Seguin: 28
Hall: 25

POINTS
Seguin: 48
Hall: 48

POINTS/ GAME
Seguin: 0.813
Hall: 0.923

HITS
Seguin: 21
Hall: 43

BLOCKED SHOTS
Seguin: 13
Hall: 28

GAME WINNING GOALS
Seguin: 5
Hall: 6

SHOTS ON GOAL
Seguin: 180
Hall: 181

SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
Seguin: 11.1%
Hall: 12.4%

GIVEAWAYS
Seguin: 27
Hall: 48

TAKEAWAYS
Seguin: 21
Hall: 28

Out of the 11 stats, Hall leads in 8 of them. Points are tied, and Seguin is better in only Assists and Giveaways. Goes to show the team the player plays on makes a big difference.

Definitely a misleading stat.

Hall is my favourite player in the league and I honestly can't say he's better. Like I said it's damn close but seriously, Tavares plays with PAP and Moulson. I would never make a Hall for Tavares swap by any means but gotta give credit where credit is due. In the game we played NYI this year Tavares and Hall were easily the two best players on the ice. Both great players and you definitely couldn't go wrong with either, I think Tavares is just one of those players similar to Nuge that improves his linemates greatly, where as Hall is just an absolute physical beast. Lots of people value the former more and you can't necessarily blame them.

I'll take Malkin and Datsyuk on this one But I do agree the players that do more are much more valuable, Hall will be a great leader and I am so excited to see what he does come playoff time. We should be damn happy we have a player like him that most teams dream about. Seriously he is the heart and soul of our team.

Does anyone know the name of that early season Seguin vs Hall topic that was pretty critical on Hall's play? I don't want to bump an old topic like that, but I wouldn't mind reading it and commenting on here about how perception has changed. HFboards search seems very iffy at times.

Hfboards doesn't watch players in the West. It's literally pointless arguing with anyone from the East because the player they are more often exposed to is always better. Happens with most fans and tons of our fans are guilty as well.

Here's two examples from my Canucks fan friend today. "I'd take Landeskog over RNH 100/100 times RNH is a band aid I told you he wasn't NHL ready, how did he even get injured anyway?"

"Tyler Seguin is more physically built for the NHL then Taylor Hall. He is a much better player." There is no point in arguing with him either, he literally will not listen, he has barely seen Hall or RNH play but just comes up with these magical opinions. Also says that Murray will be a bust and that Dumba sucks (even though he played against him and last year wouldn't stop praising how good he was in Bantam) maybe he just has an Oilers issue..

ANYWAYS, I have no idea how that just made it into my post but it did. Point is people will 90% of the time pick the player they have been exposed to more frequently then the players they have seen play once or twice. Just how it works around these parts.

Yeah, there was one guy who was always bashing Hall and salivating over Seguin, but I haven't seen him around for a while, lol.

I think he changed his username to Seguin_19 and became a Bruins fan.

The funny thing about these players is that they're practically pointless to compare because they're in such different situations that the variables are all over the place.

If it weren't for some Taylor vs Tyler debate from two years ago, no one would ever consider comparing these two.

What, No More Taylor Vs. Tyler Threads?

wonder why?.....oh ya, must be because Taylor now has more points in less games than Tyler? now the gloaters have nothing to gloat about. i am, and always will be glad we took Taylor anyways!!

Shouldn't you at least wait until the previous Tyler vs Taylor thread makes it off the front page before making this thread? There was also 1 or 2 on the main board within the last few days...

WHenever there's a close 1-2 draft like that, and the players are relatively close in production these kinds of threads are always going to pop up. Until Seguin or Hall completely pull away it'll be common

Why are Oiler fans so insecure about Seguin's success? We have known that Hall and Seguin were almost equal talents since before the draft. I don't understand why everyone wants to discredit Seguin's season.
