I think the series between the B's and Bolts was pretty close before Seguin had a 4 point second period. This point is moot.
Both players were close in the draft, and there's still not a lot separating them.
Only the media wanted it to sound close. It's like saying Nail vs Mikhail...Yakupov is miles ahead but you need something in MSM to talk about.
In junior Hall was on the stacked team putting up similar numbers to Seguin and Hall won the Cup.
And Hall did it in less games, and IIRC, was played less near the end of the OHL season. Seguin always played the full PP and played close the half a game, every game. Nearing the end of the OHL season, Plymouth did what the Canucks did with Sedin where they kept feeding him to pad his stats in hopes he leads the league in points

Hall was the best player on a stacked team. Seguin wasn't even close to being the best on the B's aside from 2 games.
There needs to be an option 3 - not much separating them.
IMO it will probably come down to who stays healthy. If both, neither or one or other that's it in a nutshell.
Hall will be better, book it. They are only close because the media wants to make them sound like they are close.
Think about it: Had we drafted Seguin and aquired our sought-after C, we'd have bailed on RNH this year and drafted Larsson. Nothing against Larsson, but a Hall/RNH combo will suit me fine over the span of their careers as Oilers.
Watching Hall participate in that feeding frenzy in the Blues end with Ebs and RNH last night (the one just prior to Hall giving the puck away and setting up the Stewart penalty shot goal - D-oh!) is enough for me to confirm my satisfaction in having drafted Hall. He was on fire, energized, fast as hell, and an extraordinary weapon.
Seguin's a great draft and I'm happy for him since he likely sense Oilers fans were clamouring for Hall. But I'm content with the lad we have.
Ya, the difference between the 2 is Hall can flip a switch and just take over a game. There's not many players in the league that can do that, and Seguin isn't one of them

I've always said: Hall can take over games by himself. Seguin is an excellent complementary player like Hemsky [probably better than Hemsky though].

Cue the "He won the Tbay series himself" remarks
I feel the exact same way. He's an extremely good player, but that doesn't mean he's able to simply take over a game the way a guy like Crosby/Ovi/Kesler/Hall can. Hell, even Datsyuk can't really do that and he's a top 5 player in the league
Why are Oiler fans so insecure about Seguin's success? We have known that Hall and Seguin were almost equal talents since before the draft. I don't understand why everyone wants to discredit Seguin's season.
its the other way around. there are many guys, Oiler fans, who were rooting for the Oil to take Seguin, the centre. and, just like bomb-shelter builders in the 50s who secretly hoped for an atomic bombing, these guys want to be proven correct.
So, everytime he has a good game, week, month, we get: "ha! i told ya, we should have taken Sequin!"
If you don't trade the pick and draft BPA, there's no need to ever second guess yourself, regardless of what happens. When you stray, that's when you have the potential to regret your moves.
