December 18, 1983 - When Wirtz finally retired #9

This video is a wonderful snapshot of the Stadium in 1983.

It begins with Harvey Wittenberg announcing the lineups.

This video was the raw feed back to WSBK in Boston and that is why there are no announcers until a few minutes had passed as Channel 38 would start the telecast back in the studio.

This ceremony is about as no frills as you can get.

The BRUINS gave Hull a nicer gift than the Hawks.

Boston announcers are the late Fred Cusick and John Pierson.

Something I need to add to this

When I was a teen, I can tell you flat out that Bobby Hull would sign EVERY last autograph after a game in Boston. I can recall him being in the train station below where the Garden was built (North Station) an hour after a game still greeting fans.

On May 10, 1970 - Hull was working for CBS as a color commentator for the Cup finals - and to get from the CBS between period studio back to the play by play area meant walking through the first balcony at the old Garden. The arena erupted in cheers as Bobby walked through the balcony. Bruins fans respected him.

Got to meet him a couple of years ago in Homewood, IL. Super, super nice guy. Got his autograph on a Northwood Hull model stick and he inscribed it "The Golden Jet" "HOF 83".
Awesome, one of my favorite autographs.

The Hawks used to practice on occasion (all of the time?) in a suburb north of Chicago, Northbrook or Glenbrook I think. A couple of times my mom took me out to see the practice. After practice the Hawks would sign autographs outside. There were huge gatherings around Hull, and he would sign for every person waiting for him, chatting you up a bit when he signed for you. He gave you special attention if you were a child. Probably took him an hour or two. Every time. Not ashamed to say that he was my sports idol when I was growing up.

I met him at Arctic Ice in Orland probably 7-8 years ago now, was signing during their Thanksgiving Tournament. His group charged $20 to have a jersey signed. Well worth it! My brother has a white Hawks sock signed.
