Scandella thought Gilbert would go to the net, which is where Spurgeon would have gone. Gilbert didn't go there. That's pretty much what happened, and sure, Scandella made a bad touch along the boards, but it's not like Gilbert made some completely boneheaded play there. He's made a number of mistakes tonight, that was probably the least worthy of latching onto.

this may surprise you Avder, but I do actually know a bit about hockey and the various reasons you pull goalies. I doubt very much this team gives a flying **** who is net right now. this is the sort of apathetic backlash you can expect from trading an "identity" player. they'll get over it, but probably not tonight unless someone in the room really gets them fired up.

Our finish line is 5 points better over the remainder of the season than the team currently sitting in 8th right now and all the other teams between us and them.

Why is it that every single time the Wild have a chance to reestablish themselves as a possible playoff contender, they come out like they aren't even interested in the game of ice hockey?

I realize you're joking, but I'm so ****ing sick of that mentality surrounding this team. It's been "maybe next year" for the past four years. At some point the team has to say, "well we'll get some help next year, but it's time to start playing for this season instead of wasting yet another season."

Ask this question again after the game. Ive got some ideas, but dont feel like hammering out the appropriate rant right now.

To put it another way, the two trades Fletcher made signal more than anything to the players that they're playing for next year.

I agree but after 3 years of half-ass trying to get into the playoffs at least they did something one way or another.

i'm not joking...well sort of not. all the new guys in this lineup haven't been skating together for many practices. This is the kind of performance you get during "tryout" games in preseason. I didn't mean it in the way you maybe thought I did--that this game wasn't important and it doesn't matter if we lose. Not it. Just that I shouldn't expect a well-oiled machine out there.

I wonder what the shot blocking numbers are gonna look like from here on out with the three vets gone from the blueline.

Going straight from watching a Netflix documentary about Kevin Clash, the puppeteer behind Elmo... Straight to Wild hockey was probably a bad idea.

The tonal swing is making me depressed.

It's not like Fletcher gutted the team for picks and called in the scrubs, though. He brought in one NHL player for every one he shipped out. Two of them are UFAs.

I'm gonna need an IV filled with some kind of comedy show after this game, I think.

No, he didnt have to gut the team. Those jerks who injured Lats, Butch, and Koivu did that.
