The Hockey News "Future Watch" 2012 (Habs ranked 28th)

Got my issue in the mail today!

Nugent-Hopkins, Hall and Eberle on the cover

Top 10:

1. Evgeny Kuznetsov
2. Mikael Granlund
3. Jonathan Huberdeau
4. Dougie Hamilton
5. Mika Zibanejad
6. Vladimir Tarasenko
7. Mark Scheifele
8. Jacob Markstrom
9. Ryan Strome
10. Brandon Gormley

Top 10 Habs (We're ranked 28th with a grade of C):

1. Nathan Beaulieu (33rd)
2. Louis Leblanc (47th)
3. Jarred Tinordi (50th)
4. Brendan Gallagher
5. Aaron Palushaj
6. Michael Bournival
7. Andreas Engqvist
8. Alexander Avtsin
9. Danny Kristo
10. Patrick Holland

*Blake Geoffrion is listed as Nashville's #4 prospect.

The main top 50 list is a result of rankings from a panel of NHL scouts. Each teams top 10 list comes from a member of the organization. This was always the case with previous issues, so while no confirmation, I'm assuming it was the same again this year.

What a joke, Avtsin over Kristo and in the top 10, no Bennett?

Out of that, 5 or 6 guys will be good NHLers, and maybe 1 or 2 'core' players.

Not great.

Our top 10 looks pretty weak from that list, don't really agree with the rankings. I can't wait until we reload in 2012.

I think were in good shape...could be better though we will have some good picks over the next two years to address size and the center position I think were solid on D prospects...We need to focus on size and skill and get another good goal tending prospect!

That's why we needed to pile on draft picks yesterday.

Another example of an organization in disarray and proof that our prospect pool is greatly overrated on this board.

i don't agree that we have tons of talent in the minors, but just seeing avtsin so high kinda tells me they didn't do their homework properly...

Is it just me or the Remparts' play-by-play guy has a very annoying voice?

Maybe I'm just in a ****** mood...

On topic, interesting to see "Mr. 4-pts-a-game" Holland make it in the top-10. Also, I'm not sure Avtsin still deserves to be in here with his play this season. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised to see him bolt to Russia as soon as next season. And I prefer Morgan Ellis as an NHLer to about half of the players in here, though I understand his upside may not be as sexy as others.

I've been pretty impressed with Bennett this year for my Wolverines. Sophmore, controls the play, great great great skater. Lots to work on but maybe has a place down the line.

Pateryn will never be able to skate well enough unfortunately.

Don't forget that our best winger, best defenseman and goalie all haven't hit their prime yet. We draft a top forward in this draft and things suddenly look a lot different.

That list is also pretty awful, I dislike Kristo but he's a better prospect that Avtsin, who has shown nothing. Nattinen is a better prospect than Engqvist.

Mid to late first. He's one of the best goalies in Canada atm. Basically we won't get him lol.

My take for our future:

Short-term (7/10): we are good with Pax and DD. Our Defense is great too with Subban, Emelin and Diaz. We usually over-rate our players; compared to the League, those are good players, no more no less. However, we lack the top-end talent.

Medium-term (3/10): we are really bad. There's almost no depth at Hamilton now. Leblanc is our best prospect. Engqvist, Palushaj, Avtsin seem very ordinary.

Long-term (5/10): again, here we tend to over-rate our prospects. I don't think that they are as good as we thought. But the situation is not too bad. We hope that Gallagher, Holland, Beaulieu, Tinordi, Kristo develop well.

Tinordi is going to be a bottom 4 guy at best he is not progressing well at all which is telling especially in an organization like London that seems to turn out some pretty decent NHLers.

Top 10, 1st overall NA Goalie, could slip because of groin injuries.

Parity goes both ways now. Not only is there more parity on the big team, it also shows on the prospect pools.
