and so begins the Seth Jones/ Nathan Mackinnon debate ala Hedman/Tavares

depends on what you need, but Seth Jones could likely be the next real deal version of Chris Pronger..

and Mackinnon could be the next Sid Crosby type player....

envious of who is drafting top 5 for this draft.

Ekblad could fall...

Reinhart, Ho-Sang, and Koy are the best in this draft so far... I'm surprised DeAngelo isn't there.

I don't think Seth Jones has been lacking in recognition. He's been ranked 2/3 on every list i've seen for like the past two years.

He's been considered a top 3-5 talent for 2013 for the last 18 months or so.

He probably meant that he thought it was nice to see Jones ranked above MacKinnon.

call me a homer if you want but I would be extremely surprised if the 2013 draft were to take place today and mackinnon didn't go #1, I just cant see a team passing up on the potential of having a dynamic player who could have a similar impact to that of stamkos

Well yeah I know that. After seeing him play against the University of Denver I knew he should go...

Issue is there could be an EXTREMELY good argument made that Seth Jones is the best d-man taken since the lockout...

I'm not saying its a knock on jones, I just see a really high scoring marketable player who also brings a complete game vs an extremely solid huge dman. Jones could very well be the better player but most teams will take the first option imo, just looke at tavares/hedman

With the exception of Nathan MacKinnon, I don't believe that any of your other 2013 draft eligible forwards have the talent that Erne has but I'll asterisk my comments by stating that I have only seen Barkhov play at the Hlinka.

Seth Jones, while a great player, is not the #1 talent in that draft and I believe that fact will emerge as he comes under more scrutiny. Given both what I have seen out of him over the last few weeks and the depth at forward that seems to be emerging for 2013, after the lack of it this year, he may not be a Top 10 either.

By this time next year, I see MacKinnon and Erne battling for #1 overall. Monahan is a good choice for #3. He's done well maintaining a spot in a lineup of older players. If he bulks up even more over the Summer and plays well with the weight we could see all three - MacKinnon, Erne and Monahan - jockeying for #1.

Anyone know who reps Monahan?

Erne is a solid player and anything can happen until June 2013, but wow I would shocked if he was in the top 3. Especially the season and improvement that Shinkaruk and Jones are having.

Monahan reminds me a lot of Tyler Seguin, just way more physical and uses his body around the net.

Nothing against Shinkaruk but he's a dwarf next to those three - Big Ern, MacKinnon and Monhan. Throw Jones into the mix and there are four more so talented and BIGGER players.

And I agree with you on Monahan. I really like his edge but where he seems to "work", Erne and Mackinnon play. Monahan needs 10 more pounds at least. Erne reminds me of Rick Nash but with even better hands.

I think Barkov might be a top 2 prospect by next year.

I should slap whoever made the 2013 list. Nathan MacKinnon's don't come around every year.

Jones as a #1 may not be consensus but it's not a stretch either at this point. They have a whole season to play yet.

They don't? Since when is he a generational talent?

?
You watched the usa-finland game at Ivan hlinka? There was no better player than Barkov on the ice. Galchenyuk got totally shut down by Barkov in that game. I would say that Barkov is now at Galchenyuk level if not better. Barkov made that USA team look very bad.

People at NA tend to underrate Barkov alot who played very solid WJC's without PP-time in defensive role as barely 16 year old playing PK. Barkov was smartest player from team finland in that tournament even smarter than Mikael Granlund who was voted as smartest player for the 2010 draft. I can't remember any bad decisions from Barkov at that tournament. I say it again Barkov at 16 is as good as any 16 year old who has came from europe in the past 20 years. If someone disagrees i want to hear arguments.

IMO Monahan has been more physical this year than Erne. To me Erne reminds me of a tougher verison of Jakub Voracek. But I do agree that he has some awesome stick-handling, though IMO Duclair is better.

I'll put a disclaimer out there that I've only seen Forsberg at the WJCs, but I continue to be surprised with how high he's ranked. 2nd overall?

I'd say he goes top 5 without a doubt. Second overall? A bit more unlikely.
