Jean Beliveau hospitalized after suffering a stroke (In stable condition!)
Quote:
MONTREAL (February 28, 2012) – The Montreal Canadiens announced today that Jean Beliveau suffered a stroke on Monday evening and was admitted to the hospital.
Now 80 years old, Mr. Beliveau is currently undergoing active investigation and treatments. As of today and for the duration of his convalescence Mr. Beliveau humbly asks everyone to respect his privacy and that of his family.
I know this is a bit off topic, but I wonder if Jean Beliveau lives a comfortable life. I know he's employed by the Canadiens in a sort of honorary role, and he attends a lot (if not all) the ceremonies and large events, but I wonder if he has enough money to live comfortably. He played in the 50s when players weren't millionaires. Sure they made some money but a lot of them had second jobs. He retired way before players were rich, and I'm sure he made a bit of money afterwards but I don't think he's living a luxury life. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Anyway, I hope he gets better. I love seeing him at all the games, he's an important part of the team and the history and I would hate having a team that isn't affiliated to him in any way.

I think the habs take care of him, remember hearing something about habs being the best team that takes care of retired players

As far as I know, Mr. Beliveau has no trouble financially. I’m not certain what the salary for a ambassador is, but couple that with his NHL players pension, and I have no doubts that he’s fine. I know he sold much of his personal memorabilia a few years ago, but that was to generate $$$ for his children and grandchildren.
