Any goaltenders likely to be waived?

From this point on, until the end of this season, are there any goaltenders that could possibly be waived by your team?

I could see Karlsson being waived since we don't play him anyways.

I believe Alex Auld will be waived the minute Craig Anderson returns from injury. That back-up position will be manned by Ben Bishop.

If any players that are currently on an NHL roster that are waived (today for example) and picked up allowed to play in the playoffs? I know if they were already on waivers and picked up prior to the waiver deadline then they can play.

Does it matter? I understood any players picked up on waivers from here (after the trade deadline) to the end of the season couldn't play in the post season? Is that accurate?

I heard that also but idk if that means players that are waived now or those that were on waivers prior to the deadline.

Yes.

Niittymaki could be waived/traded if someone is desperate for a goalie to close out the season.

Not true. Players can be traded. They just aren't eligible to play in the post-season. It happened last year IIRC.

Any player picked up from waivers after the trade deadline day (the accurate time is a couple of hours before the trade deadline) can't play in the playoffs for the team that claimed him.

Regardless if they were on waivers before or placed on them after the trade deadline?

Everyone by this point should have their starter anyways. A goalie picked up on waivers would be to help make the playoffs not be the playoff starter.

Yes, after that deadline for picking up waived players expires they aren't eligible to play in the playoffs.

Clitsome and Staubitz are last waived players that could play in the playoffs for teams that claimed them.

Jonas Gustavsson might be a candidate for waivers. I am convinced the last game he played and gave up that OT goal that wasn't even on net might be his last as a Leaf, I could be wrong there but I don't think he's getting re-signed at this point, so it might be best to see what you have in the AHL. It will be hard for Gus to come back from that bad goal given his already shaky reputation.

The Leafs have 3 goalies in the Minors doing quite well right now and if they continue to struggle, I expect we'll give one of them a good look down the stretch.

BJ and Gustavsson

Thiessen could come up for the pens and play solid.

Rynnas, Scrivens or Owuya could do the same for the Leafs,

However there does appear to be an exemption for Goalies. Under By-Law 28 any Goaltender on a teams Reserve List - or in the case of an emergency situation any Goaltender not on another teams Reserve List - are eligible to play even if signed/acquired after the Trade Deadline.

Has there ever been a situation where a player was acquired after the trade deadline, played the rest of the regular season, then had to sit out for the playoffs?

Nitty was already put on waivers about a month ago, wasn't he? Nobody picked him up and he's now in the AHL doing conditioning stints.

any waiver claims made after deadline day means the player being waived, if claimed, cannot play in the post season with his new team, but can finish the regular season. i do believe, however dont hold it to me, that any player waived cannot be sent to the minors or loaned after the deadline.

the exception to the rule is goalies. in case of an emergency any goalie who has a contract with the team can play in the playoffs regardless of if they were acquired (traded for, claimed on waivers, signed as free agent) before or after the deadline.

continuing on that...

trades CAN be made after the deadline! :O
the player acquired just cannot play in the NHL for the rest of the season, including playoffs. they can however play in the AHL and AHL playoffs.
