Suter has hinted NASH needs to show the team the money to compete. Now, he wants join a team such as NYI that is BELOW what NASH spends and uses rookie bonuses and over 35er bonuses to reach the FLOOR?
The ONLY way Isles have a shot at any good UFA is by demonstrating to the market before July 1 they WANT to compete.
That means a solid trade or two to bolster the O/D. Resigning Nabby. Get a legit NHL coach (it's gonna be Weight, so no need to argue the obvious).
Guys signed in FL b/c of the GM's track record, they brought in Campbell, and then showed players the money...
I think all those signings in Florida are going to come back and bite them in the buttocks in a year or two. I personally thought some of Tallon's signings were fiscally irresponsible.
The Isles have given no indication of spending money so I'm expecting a big bust on July 1st. Snow has the assets to pull of some magic on Draft Day, but he has not given any indication that he's willing to part with anyone. He talks a great game, but the results speak for themselves.

Wang wants to cheap out, but really, if the team was friggin relevant by spending/winning...

80% of this list are the over the hill gang. Right up Snow/Wang's alley.
That's a great list candidates to compete for 2nd line and top 4 D minutes. We will invite them all to camp. I can't wait to alert Charles!!! [/GMGarth]

It's already biting them. They dumped a quality player signed long term in Booth for two lesser players (Samuelsson and Sturm) who are UFAs after this year. They will likely let those two go in addition to Garrison this summer in order to pay for raises for Kulikov and Versteeg. They have a good prospect pool, but as we know it's going to take some time for the kids to establish themselves. In the meantime, it's going to be hard for them to pick up veteran players to help them now. Unless of course they decide to start spending much more than they ever have in the past.
Then again, who are we to criticize a team in 1st place in their (weak) division?

They moved Booth b/c since his concussion, he has not been the same player. He's on much better offensive team and his play/numbers stink. It was a smart move to move that contract and take back UFA's - cap relief...to pay for the raises. They will not qualify Wolski at that number - again cap relief. Smart, smart moves of using your players as assets.
Garrison is no different than a typical late bloomer hitting UFA at the right time. He's going for gold, much like PAP, and it's 'no offense' to the team used as a vehicle to get that.

Booth is playing very well according to VCR fans. If often takes awhile to get back to form after concussions and FLA could really have used him now. Yes, Booth is a risk but that's part of the point. When you have several overpaid players on longterm contracts and your payroll is modest, you're limited in taking risks that could improve your team. When you have to clear salaries just to resign your own players, it makes it much harder to improve.
BTW, Garrison I agree with you they should not resign at a premium given their other young defenders that can pick up the slack. And Wolski very likely they have no interest in bringing back.
