This year may be a fluke and he'll turn in to a giant pile of crap, too.
That's like your parents telling you one day you might be president when you're older.
He's playing well, but let's not be ridiculous.
Exactly right brother. He still makes crazy stupid mistakes in his own zone and I don't ever see him being great defensively. However, he does fill an important need to our team as our best offensive defenseman.

Crazy stupid mistakes? Nope.
Interesting you'd say this but then not mention McDonagh giving the puck RIGHT to Elias, which probably would've been a goal if he didn't ridiculously do some crazy behind the back pass.
MDZ has been the definition of solid for most of this season.
I don't think he's "by far" our best offensive d-man. 5 on 5 they are about equal I would say. McDonagh hardly gets any PP time so it's hard to judge how he would fair if given enough minutes on it
I think it is by far. McD has the tools and can do things defensively MDZ can't, but MDZ just thinks the offensive game better than he does.
What makes players "untouchable" is what they provide as opposed to what you would get in return if there was a trade.
Hank is untouchable simply because he is among the very best goaltenders in the world (some would argue the best), so there is absolutely no upgrade possibilities by trading him (except in a financial sense).
*Anyone else* in the entire organization are tradable for the right return, and it boils down to personal preference rather than actual value on who is "untouchable" or not.
Everything depends on the trade. For example Stamkos, Malkin and Giroux are players that you would have to move some of your "untouchables" for. But that's it. It's a very short list.
I would trade anybody on the team not named Lundqvist for RNH.
LOVE that kid. Love all those EDM kids, actually.
I have them all in fantasy... just ask Ailurophile. haha
If MDZ isn't untouchable, McD isn't either. Both of them bring a dynamic aspect to the blueline nobody else does- McD is our best two-way d-man and MDZ is by far our best offensive d-man.
I'd consider them both untouchable.
I wouldn't trade MDZ but it he's trade bait that doesn't make McD "touchable". McD is untouchable; he's significantly better than MDZ and he's about to win the +- battle playing against everyone's best players.

Duncan Keith makes a few stupid mistakes every game and the Hawks aint moving him anytime soon. The positive far outweigh the negatives as they do with MDZ.

he didn't give it to him; he was stripped of the puck on a deke. Dumb play? Yes. It happens to the best of them. He makes very few of those which is one of the reasons why he is so good. btw, did he mention any specific mistakes that MDZ made? No so what does defending MDZ with another defenseman mistake accomplish? And I agree with you about MDZ. Not sure your tactic does you any good.

Very true. People were ready to write off Keith Ballard as being hands and feet above Duncan Keith. If any one could find that thread... well it is pure gold from a comedy stand point.

the numbers do not support that assessment. At ES their offensive numbers are very similar and McD is on the ice alot with Boyle's line defending while MDZ is on the ice alot with Gabby trying to push the biscuit. I think MDZ has better vision and is a slightly better passer but you are not giving McD enough credit; he is in the top 10 in the league with ES points for a d-man. Not bad for a first year shut down d-man who plays a ton with the team's checking line who have 13 goals all year.
Not at all, but I would absolutely hate seeing Carl Jetson go.
Saw him with the Whale also, and knew he was good, but he has been way better than I hoped for with the big club.
