Why don't posts-hit count as shots on goal? They are shots that are literally on the goal. What about all the saves goalies make on shots that are going wide, or high, or pose basically no threat? They still count. Shots can hit the post and go in, or hit the post and then hit the goalie and go in, they are not by nature harmless.

Shots that hit the post and go in do get counted as shots. It's the idea that they the shot had no chance of going in from the moment it left the stick. They mark it as a scoring chance still, just like a cross crease pass that a guy fans on towards a wide open net, but no shot on goal.

because the post aint the goal. The goal is the area between the posts and behind the line.

They aren't supposed to count shots that are going high or wide that the goalie saves as shots on goal. Alot of teams probably do though because it's obviously hard to tell in the moment if the puck is going into the net or not.
Basically any shot that would go in if the goalie didn't stop it is a shot on goal. If it hits the post and doesn't go in, it can't be a shot on goal because it was never going to go in. Same with shots the goalie "saves" but wouldn't have gone in due to being high or wide or whatever. Some of those are hard to tell, of course.
What I'd like to see, and what Razor talked about, is to see a player's true shooting percentage. Now it's only the percentage of shots on goal that are goals. Why not all shots attempted?
He's learning well from his linemate. As Evgeni Malkin once famously said, "Shoot more, shoot everybody."

If Fiddler co. can produce the same kind of performance as against the twins, we'll win by a margin.. Overall we are the better team and with Benn back this is a good chance to keep the ball rolling.
Goose is up for this for sure.. Give him all the time he wants tonight but maybe with Robi and not Larsen.. And Fistric can continue not to give up goals as he did against the Canucks.

I'm a huge optimist but dang I want some of that kool-ade
From the second line down Stars are much more balanced and Kari is technically superior to Fleury. They just have that 1st line which wins them games with a couple of individually talented players who help their PP/PK with a margin.. Having a sold-out arena 41 times a season also helps them to overachieve time and time again(remember when we also had this to some extent).
Fleury isn't even that good. His defense carries him for the most part, but he can make a great save now and then. But I'd take Kari every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
We've got better depth, it's just shutting down their first line.
