Woof. Brodeur is having a better season than Khabibulin. I know Khabibulin has the downfall of playing for a horrible team, but still. Roloson's career is over as sad as it is, but yeah he's not 39 anymore so I get the comparison.

This team struggles to get a clear in their zone pretty much every game that causes AT LEAST one goal, and you think Marty hasn't been let down by his team?
I was told in November when Marty had an atrocious game against Toronto that criticism of him is off limits. I also walked around saying F Brodeur the whole night when he played Washington in November, and have said numerous times I wanted more Hedberg starts so I don't rush to his defense.
Has he been that good this season? So so. By his standards not really. He did rob us a few before we went on this last losing streak. He also got us a point in the Boston game. With how that 1st period was going it looked like Calgary all over again. Should have been 6-0.
I'm going to agree with the Hawks fan. Marty has only recently started to play well. Did everyone forget how mediocre he was the first half of the season?
Edit: but that doesn't mean Marty shouldn't be included in that list. He's been phenomenal that past couple of months.
Rask got injured, looked pretty bad. Eitheir groin or a knee, who knows. Khudobin is going to get a callup if it`s serious.
Jack Edwards @RealJackEdwards
Rask hurt. Thomas only one week behind last season's rate of work. Rask had a L knee scope after last season. No idea if it's knee.
EDIT: Moulson scores his 28th. One of the most underrated and consistent forwards in the league.
EDIT: Khudobin is injured too (wrist). Bruins are screwed. Not sure how serious his injury is though.
They'll be ok riding Thomas, but it is risky. Not only do they have to rely only on him and pray he doesn't get injured or lit up, but riding him will wear him out a bit for the playoffs.

Marty had horrible games in November, and good ones, and the same for December. His first game was kinda bad the opener against the Flyers. He kept us in the game as long as he could. Not his fault the rest of the team couldn't score against Jyzgalov.
A few bad games in November. The Toronto game. Just gave up from what I remember a few bad goals, but made the save of the season for all Goaltenders in the NHL on I believe Kessel. It was a little late though as we never came back.
Had a few good ones in November like against the Sabres, and against Columbus who we actually made look really good that night.
Of course that bad game against Minnesota where he was pulled after 3 goals on 4 shots.
Since the new year I don't think we've lost cause of his bad play. One game he gave up a soft shorty to Ottawa, but the truth is he was on top of his game the earlier of the night while the rest of the team looked like they partied a little too hard for New Years.
Boston the first time at home was bad. I don't think he gave up many bad ones until we were so far out of it anyway. Same with the Colorado game in the Fall.
Calgary game he gave up a couple bad ones, and Moose came in, and gave up even worse ones.
One more thing. I won't defend Marty's play up, and down this year, but he should have retired 5 years ago. I didn't want to see him retire 5 years ago so don't take that out of context.
With how much he was played from 95 all the way to when he was injured in 08 he played damn near every game of the season. Do we even remember all of our backups names from 95 up until Weekes, and Clemmensen had to fill in for him in 08/09? Terreri was traded away, and traded back. Don't remember much about Corey Schwab other than a big fight he had in 95, and that he came back in 02. Mike Dunham in 96. Beezer for like 10 games over 2 years.
He's got more wear, and tear than any of those other old guys. Khabibulin has played around 740 games before this season. Roloson has probably played in even fewer than that. Same with Hedberg, and Thomas. Marty has a lot of wear, and tear. I swore he wouldn't play past 35 or 36 if you asked me 10 years ago. That's why I say he should have retired 5 years ago.
He's been pretty consistently serviceable the whole season aside from the last 2 seasons. He's also been the best Defenceman we've had for 5 years.

I said right after that don't take it out of context!
That doesn't mean he's sucked for 5 years. It means take into account all the games he's played, and he should have become unserviceable about 5 years ago!

ahh, haha I was so caught up in that statement, didn't pay attention to the rest of your post.

In other words, you're saying that a traditional run-of-the-mill Goaltender's life-expectancy in the NHL ends at 34?

If you asked me in 2001 would Martin Brodeur play to 40? I would have said no way. I would have gave him 38 tops. I pretty much thought he would have hung it up before the decade was over. In 03 after he won his 3rd Cup I figured he was definitely content that the end was near. Patrick Roy retired that Summer, and then came talk of Marty breaking his record eventually, because Marty probably had 400 wins by that time. Marty got the extension in 06 for 6 years, and I thought alright maybe I was wrong? He even won a Vezina around that time too.
I understand what he's saying. How many quality career games can you truly expect from a goaltender in the NHL? Style of play and all, but it's a borderline miracle Marty is still able to lace 'em up these days.
