63 points in 62 games played? I think that's a little high for Nuge. 26 points in the last 20 games is asking for a lot, but I guess he's overcome expectations before.
I'll say Landeskog wins it. He's looking like he's comfortable in the NHL and may roll with it until the end of the season. Not to mention his all around game.
18p in 20g seems like a reasonable expectation for Nuge for the rest of the season. If he ends up one point less than Henrique with 12 less games played, I don't see how he doesn't win.
We also have two games to play against Columbus, so it may well end up being more than 18
I think he can do it myself. Of course, he has to get reunited with the other kids, and get 1st PP time. He missed an open net last night, unfortunately, but he does have a goal and an assist in the last two games. The goal was the only one the Oilers got against the 'Yotes too, so that should say alot. This kid is hands down the best rookie this season, unfortunately injury has held him back from running away with it. He is not far out of it however, only four points back of the lead, with alot less games played. Of course, most of the voters are in the U.S., so that may be a problem. However, with all the Oiler HOF this team does not have a Calder trophy winner, so its about time an Oiler won it.
I would be absolutely shocked if RNH won the award. I think he has too much going against him. The injuries and the fact that he's on the 29th best team will work against him. I actually wouldn't be shocked if he's not even nominated. I think Landeskog or Henrique win it.

Sadly, this. I would hope they look at ppg - but whatever - the last time I heard RNH speaking about the calder, he was pretty blah about it.
It's much like the '99 Calder race in which Chris Drury took the award with a 20-goal, 40 point season after Marian Hossa missed the first two months of the season.
In any event, the Calder would be nice but means very little in the long-run. Everyone in the NHL recognizes RNH as the superior talent and he'll be a point-a-game player (over a full season) shortly.
I don't give much credence to the Calder. Nice if GNH wins but the team stat is the most important. Gretzky did not win it but was the best player ever.
I guess in a dreadful season of finishing 20th or so a Calder would be one nice nice to be proud of.

Gretzky would have most likely won the Calder if he hadn't played in the WHA. Because of that he wasn't considered a rookie by the NHL.
It would be sweet if RNH won the Calder, but knowing the NHL, he won't.
I think he's in tough against Henrique and Landeskog but if he can PPG it and clearly be past both guys in points in 20 less games played and think it's hard to turn him down. If not the Nuge I hope they give it to Landeskog. He's really become a beast in the second half of the year.
If he puts up near PPG the rest of the way I think he will take it. If not oh well, we know he is a superior player to the rest of the crop of rookies. The calder seems it would be more of a moral victory for us fans than anything imo, albeit a nice accolade for RNH, it won't make a difference in the long run.
Winning the Calder means more $ for the Nuge, so it's more than a consolation prize to Oil fans. Not to mention who wouldn't want to win the award when they still have a great chance to win it?
I think it's a misstake that Landeskog will be on a 0.6-0.7 ppg pace (his season pace so far) over the last 18 games. He's been > 1 ppg since mid-Jan and it doesn't look like he's slowing down especially now that he seems to be clicking with O'Reilly-Downie.
As I wrote in the other thread I hope that those who predict that RNH will get 18 points over the next 20 games are wrong, because if he gets that I think the Calder will go to Landeskog... I think he needs at least 20 points but more likely 25 points to take it.
The good news is that we can play for RNH, we've got nothing to lose so it's time to put him on the 1st PP and give him lots of icetime and set ups. COL can't afford to focus on Landeskog's production as they are involved in the fight for a playoff spot. And with regards to henrique, I have not been impressed at all with his game basically since the beginning of Jan, in the games I've seen he's not been the presence he was during the first half of the season. If he doesn't snap out of it he'll be overrun by RNH and Landeskog.
Definitely gotta give credit to Landeskog. I remember before the draft many people were saying they thought he had limited upside... and many thought because he was the most physically ready of all the draft prospects that he was being overrated.
I said back then that his intangibles and leadership + his maturity and offensive/defensive skills could very well see him as #1 in the draft. Now we see why he was chosen as high as #2... hits, solid plus/minus... good offensive skills (look at how many shots he gets... always aggressive with the puck)... plays the PP AND the PK.
The guy is a stud and is only going to get better. I certainly would have understood why the Oilers chose him if they picked him #1 even though RNH looks like a brilliant choice as well.

Yup. I think we can't say that there's a centre in this draft that's as good as Hopkins. If we'd taken Landeskog at the last draft we'd have a power forward, but we'd still be hurting badly down the middle.
If the Nuge is the point leader at the end of the season, he wins the Calder.
If he wins Rookie of the month for March that would give him 3 monthly honors. Henrique and Hodgson have both had one (and Landeskog is the prime candidate to win for Feb.)
Nuge is going to have to pour it on to win though. Landeskog has really turned up his pace. (12 points in 12 games in Feb).
the calder should be awarded to the best rookie of the season, take a way the injuries and the only thing anyone is talking about is which tie color RNH wears with his suit to receive the award. Nuge has 3 things against him, 1. he plays in teh west, 2. he was injured and 3. he was expected to win it, underdog stories will effect voting imo.
Henrique seems to be a streaky scorer, has gone 6 points in 4 games 4 times this season. He is scoreless in his last 3 games giving RNH a chance to catch him.
I think NUGE is going along at around .85ppg. If he can even sustain a .75ppg average for the remainder of the season, I think he's got a very good shot at the calder.
