I heard about this the other day and wasn't impressed. With a fifth of the season left they are going to decide who is winning trophies?

I have nothing wrong with Landeskog winning and yes as we sit today I give it to him, but lets see how the season plays out.

RNH will have to go on a tear up to the end of the year to have any chance at all.

Anyone know what the bonus money is on RNH ELC for winning the Calder?

Landeskog will likely win.
Nuge has been great for us.. thats all that really matters.

When you list a players career accomplishments.. the Calder isn't mentioned.

I think Landeskog will win too unless Nuge goes on a huge run these final 10 games. Nuge has just missed too many games. But no big deal, over the long run, Nuge will probably outscore Landeskog by a big margin and thats what counts. Look at Jeff Skinner.. rookie of the year last season, but bot Hall and Eberle are still producing better than him this year.

Very true. I wouldn't trade any of our 3 kids for Skinner. Too bad Nuge got hurt, he would of had a pretty special year, but like you said, in the big picture, it won't really matter. On a side note, both Nuge and Hall looked great out there last night, with a little luck, they both could of put up 5 points.

This is the key issue and something to be happy about even if he doesn't take home the Calder.

The Calder will go to Landeskog unless something extraordinary happens but I'd much rather have RNH on my team for the future. I had the same feeling last year with regards to Skinner and Couture who were the top two favorites for the Calder but at the same time I always considered Hall and Eberle >>>> Skinner and Couture.

I still hope he can get it though. For whatever it's worth I'd like to bring home even such a insignificant trophy as the Calder this year. Lady Byng seems to be a lock for L.Eriksson if he doesn't get into a fight during the last 10 games so I think we won't have that either

Nuge still has a chance. All he has to do is score 4 more points than Landeskog and Henrique over the next 12 games. He had no problem doing that over the first 12 games. That said, I still think Landeskog is the favorite to take the rooking scoring title and the Calder.

As far as the future goes: Landeskog is going to be a star player in the league (he kinda is already) but I wouldn't take him, Statsny and O'Reilly for Nuge. At both ends of the ice, Nuge's upside is in the stratosphere.

Landeskog will most likely win. Nevertheless, I think if RNH had been injured for only 10 games, he would have walked away with the Calder. In that sense, circumstances will be the reason Landeskog wins rather than actual play.

I'd like to add, I really like Landeskog. I love the way he plays and he has had a tremendous rookie year.

^ I agree.. Landeskog is the perfect type of player the Oilers are missing in their top 6 going forward. Big body, banger, good point producer and great leadership. But having said that.. i'd still take Nuge over Landeskog everytime.

The way I look at it, if both reach their potential, it's a choice between Iginla (Lando) or Sakic (RNH). Both excellent players, but I take Sakic everytime.

It'd be something for the organization to hang its hat on but it doesn't really matter.

Hall, Eberle, Seguin > Skinner

RNH > Henrique, Landeskog

I don't think RNH has a chance because of the injuries and the games he struggled in coming back from them. Before the injury he was on fire and would have just as many points as Eberle if not more if he'd not gotten hurt.

Reporters vote, right? All the articles from out East lately talk about Henrique and Landeskog, all the articles from out east earlier this year were talking about Matt Read even when the Nuge was the clear choice. Just part of being out northwest and part of being on a 29th place team.

We have the best guys going forward and that's all that matters. The holes and improvements in the Nuge's game are the most obvious and it seems like he has the highest ceiling, the most room to grow whereas I don't think the ceiling for Landeskog or Henrique is much higher.

Hope Landeskog wins if it can't be RNH. He's having the best season and has clearly helped the Avs get to the position they're in right now. I think RNH has to clear both of them by 5 points by the end of the season to even get noticed. It's not right but it is what it is.

I think that's a bit short sighted. We don't know how RNH would have played. he could have had a midseason rookie slump. He could be seen as only a one dimensional player. I don't think if Landeskog wins it would just be because RNH was hurt.
The way he's played, his all around game, and what he's done to help drag colorado up the standings make him a worthy winner, if he indeed wins.

While I agree that Landeskog has been impressive throughout the season and will be a deserving winner, I dispute the fact that RNH's injury will have no bearing on the win. RNH was dominant in his first two to three months in the season and with a healthy Eberle and Hall I find it difficult to believe that he wouldn't have continued a similar pace. Heck, even at a reduced pace he would be miles in front.

Look at his performance since coming back from a significant time away from the game. Just under a point a game. Only 3 points back already? impressive.

I think too many people are ignoring RNH in the final push. Look at NHL.com and there is s Calder discussion about the race mentioning only Henrique and Landeskog.

If the Nuge can finish the season ahead of the other two I think the voters are going to have a very difficult decision.

By the way, Landeskog vs Henrique tonight.....nil points for either. Win. Big night needed against Calgary tomorrow

I'm willing to bet that RNH passes Landeskog and Henrique in points before the end of the season... but Landeskog still wins. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

If RNH does indeed pass Landeskog in points there is no way to justify Landeskog winning the Calder. I'm sorry but 22 less games is pretty significant.

HF is known for the "what have you done for me lately" theory. RNH has been injured and Landeskog has been tearing it up. RNH still deserves it and if he scores at the rate he has all season for the last 13 games he'll get the fans attention over Landeskog.

If Nuge passes Landeskog in points and doesn't win the calder it will be blasphemous. It's not as if the Nuge isn't good on defense too and also probably gets less minutes per game than Landeskog. Hopkins' first 30 games or so was probably the best rookie debut since P. Kane or Crosby and Ovi.

Unfortunately it isn't the opinions of HF that are going to make the vote. As posted earlier several of those who have a vote will choose Lands....

As of today he is 3 points back Lando has only 9 max games left AH has 11 and RNH has 12. Should be an exciting finish.

Lands is good, but I don't see how anyone can justify he is a better player out there than RNH is.

RNH is a much superior player right now and in the future.

If they played a full season, RNH would be clearing him by 20 points right now.

Seriously, how is this even justifiable? Am I seeing the same players you guys are?

Well it's not just HF. Opinions in general are usually thought out because of what players have done lately.
