What ever happened to the post-game exercise bikes?

It seems like a long time ago now, but when did they phase out the post-game exercise bikes and those epic interviews? We were mocked around the league for those interviews, I specifically remember Shanahan mocking us, but at the same time those seemed to be some pretty good years with a competitive team. I blame Heatley and his lazy attitude for getting rid of the bike routine, but does anyone know what killed it? New training staff?

I saw something on TV recently with Spezza riding the bike after the game but that was the first time in quite a while. They probably don't want the players interviewed while they are on them any more since the Shanahan incident.

Shanny did a post game interview where he was kinda jogging on the spot until finally remarking "Hey I'm suppose to be on a bike" or something to that extent. When I saw this stuff on SC's top ten the other night Spezza said it was a Martin thing. So I'd assume when he got fired from the HCing job they stopped doing it.

I remember that, it was on HNIC I think. He basically jogged on the spot, pretending to be out of breath and on an exercise bike while doing the interview. It was pretty hilarious.

I also miss those bike interviews, they seemed like a Senators tradition.

Send a message via Skype™ to OmniSens
I asked Turris last night what took them so long to come to us, he said we were riding the bike.

Does that answer anything? lol

I never noticed the Habs doing it while JM was the coach. Sadly, it seems like the days of those bike interviews are gone for good...

They still ride the bikes, just no interviews while on them

Didn't Randy Lee have something to do with it?

Not really sure what exactly the point was of having the interviews ON the bike, was it a time saving thing? Was it the team wanting to get it out there that we were really well conditioned?

I noticed it stopped years ago, not sure around the time but makes sense that it was a Martin thing.

They obviously still ride the bike, every team does.....

I always saw it as a statement that they were super disciplined and in such good shape that they game didn't take enough out of them. They needed MORE! But as you point out, most teams probably do it, it's just not televised!

[/I] In my household the after-game bicycle exercises became a joke, especially when the guys lost the game because they only played really hard for about 10 minutes of the game. But they sure had plenty of energy left to pedal those damn bikes LOL.

It's just a cool-down. We probably only did the interviews on bicycles because either a) Martin did not want the players to waste time and instead wanted them to multitask or b) we were showing off.
