Phoenix XLIV: Ignorance & Apathy (or I Doan't Know & I Doan't Care)
ESPN the Magazine article (researched starting in November) on Tippett. Updates through trade deadline.
Coyotes used to own/run the Ice Den. Now they have to rent time. Don't even have office space at practice facility.
No director of player personnel. A total of three scouts.
"No player is allowed to turn down an interview, whether it's for an all-sports station or a country morning show."

Now the Coyotes are down to only two buyers who want to keep the team in Phoenix: Greg Jamison, the former Sharks CEO, and Bulls and White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf. But progress is slow. Recent reports indicate that Jamison is close to an agreement to buy the team, but even if that's true, a deal would still need to be struck with the city of Glendale. Each time an owner has been close, the deal blows up from the same old story: Who pays more: a rich man or the public? If the team isn't sold by the end of the season, the Coyotes probably will relocate this summer, perhaps to Seattle, perhaps to somewhere in Canada. Says NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly, who serves as the Coyotes' de facto owner, "This won't go on forever."
I think there was a tone of sarcasm in his statement based upon previous events where the council was told to hold off on researching life at the arena without an NHL tenant.

Don't believe everything you read. Most of the author's exaggerated claims serve to only hit the melodramatic mark. This team lacks for nothing with first rate on and off ice training facilities, first class travel accommodations, coaching, management, trainers etc.. This clown made the Ice Den (one of the nicer facilities in the U.S.) sound more like a hubble.
When the Dallas Stars won the cup they practiced in a much lessor facility..... I'd take those results.
Great little story on how the team itself is fairing and dealing with all of this day by day. Thanks for posting the link.
Check out the responses to the article in yesterday's ownership thread on the Coyote Boards and you'll get a clearer understanding of the situation K..
Looks like Mike Sunnucks from the Phoenix Business Journal has backtracked.
''One source who has direct knowledge of the Coyotes sale says that prospective buyers have come in with optimism regarding their bids only to run into stumbling blocks when investment partners see the franchise's losses.
Working out a deal with the city of Glendale or an arena lease that works for possible owners and doesn't violate Arizona law regarding corporate giveaways has also been a challenge.''
So I'm guessing that this sale was what it was? Misinformation or more likely disinformation?
It looks more likely that the original sales news, which conveniently came out a day after the Seattle arena news, was but a ploy to take pressure away from the NHL in regards to Seattle and sell more tickets while they are in a playoff run.
I guess I can understand that, but it's a messed up way of playing with Coyotes fans. Then again, that is but my opinion.

Prospective buyers needed to "come in" to find this out?
Re-opening. Please report any flaming, trolling and offensive posts. We're not going to bother with moderating 'off topic' posts, because that's pretty much all we're left with at this point.
Thank you for re-opening this - not really fond of this new 'individual topics for individual threads' idea - otherwise, we'd have 50 different PHX threads (parking, GWI interference, COG ineptness, one for each 'potential' owner, etc, etc.)
Can't beleive I missed this thread so much - makes me a little scared of what I'm going to do when the Coyotes situation is finally solved.

We'll probably still have some of that. As you can tell, some of you were just shooting the breeze in here out of habit. I honestly can't remember the last legitimate development out of Phoenix. Beasley retiring?

Good question - IMO the last 2 issues of signficance were Cactus Phil saying he wants the Coyotes to go "bye-bye", and the COG struggling to find the $5M owed to the NHL (to the point library closures were being considered).
I've got March 20th circled on my calendar (at CasualFan's lead).

Well no, there have been all kinds of contemporaneous developments that in & of themselves provide insight, though hardly deserving of a singular thread for the purposes of discussion.
We are approaching end game here, one way or the other, the lines blurring as to what may be deemed on or off topic. Whats happening in QC, the CBA etc all pieces of the puzzle as the NHL's running deep, running silent, and it would appear towards distant shores.
This is a big story & a big deal to a lot of people. A lot of posters here at hf alone have invested a great deal of time and attention to it. Surely there is room on this board to see it through to the end. Many of us have little interest in other topics, threads, boards, this particular matter transcending most other topics in providing broadsheet coverage.

Recap? I didn't have the energy to wade through all the other stuff?
“I don’t want the Coyotes sold,” Lieberman said. “I want them to go bye-bye"

So, we maybe have some news next week? At least it ain't two.....ah, forget it.
Oops, missed the $5M shortfall - got it from CasualFan, back on page 2 of this thread:

On the Westgate front the outlet mall has broken ground and is underway. How that might play into easing CoGs debt load towards the arena (via sales taxes and such) remains to be seen.
RE: The ESPN article.
I just found this in regards to the ownership of the Ice Den..
So Burke never intended to sell the practice facility to Ellman. When the new arena opened in Glendale the team moved their practices there. IIRC... the original plans for Westgate called for a practice facility to be built adjacent to the arena's east side (where the pay-to-park lot is currently). But that never happened.
Gary Bettman "addressed" the media for a few minutes upon conclusion of the meetings down south, stating on the Coyotes situation;
"Youve heard me say this more times than I care to say it, it remains a work in progress. Theres still a number of groups that are engaged in the process, and were still in close contact with the city. At some point, we may have to turn the page. Im hoping not to get to that point, and Im not setting a deadline for it".
