Phoenix XLIV: Ignorance & Apathy (or I Doan't Know & I Doan't Care)
Season ticket renewal invoices just went out. The 300 are looking forward to continued playoff runs.
Doubt it means much either way. If the team stays, they'll send out the tickets as they always do. If the team goes, they'll issue refunds, as the Thrashers did last year.

Yeah, and ASG was still accepting Thrasher season ticket purchase the day that the relocation was announced.
Even if the team does relocate and the NHL has to refund the tickets, those that do buy them will essentially be giving the NHL an interest free loan for a few months.
Glendale had to have City Manager Beasley go ask the NHL attorneys if they would be willing to restructure this years $25MM payment. During budget planning the city discovered that they are about $5MM light on fulfilling their obligation. So, Scruggs dispatched Beasley to try to work out a payment plan.

Is there a link for this?
I completely believe you because this is very plausible - I just want to read more about it.
Maybe if Beasley shows up with a tray of these, but arranged to spell Mea Culpa....
"But with Hulsizer moving on and exploring other NHL opportunities, one wonders if there isn't a lot of second-guessing going on in Glendale. Hulsizer's last proposal to local leaders was to purchase the controversial municipal bonds that were key to a new lease agreement between him and the City of Glendale. That proposal would have put an additional $5 million in the city coffers, a source confirmed to ESPN.com."
It's amazing that Hulsizer knew they would have a shortfall of exactly $5mio a year ago and now in an amazing coincidence they do.

No wonder we don't have an owner!!!
It's not any kind of secret. Glendale has known about the $5MM shortfall since the inception of the agreement. The reason it's a topic now is that the city is facing the procedural requirement of accounting for it in the budget but they haven't identified a funding source. Staff eluded to various inter-fund loan possibilities but Scruggs wanted Beasley to contact the NHL to explore deferment / payment plan options as well.
I hope the NHL is open to the idea. I also hope that Beasley decides to present the interest rate for deferred amounts to the Council in pantomime.

It would be awesome if he did one of these

The thrashers even had their ticket upgrade event last year!
Given that COG is having problems meeting this season's payment, can we safely assume they won't authorize another season at $25 million?
They may not pay $25 million but it certainly looks like they are more than willing to pay $20 million next season. the budget is only in draft stage but I would fully expect the COG to continue paying.
Quote:
The staff has allocated $20 million in the draft budget for fiscal year 2012-13, which begins July 1, for the management of Jobing.com Arena. Schurhammer said the $20 million reflects the amount in the current-year budget.

Yes that was pretty cruel to do to the fanbase. Most reports had only a couple hundred people showing up. I would hope that the NHL wouldn't do that to Coyotes fans.

The Thrashers fan club is planning a rally before the team's annual select-a-seat event for season-ticket holders at Philips Arena on Saturday.
Lisa Lewis, the fan club president, said Wednesday she expects a "pretty big turnout."
According to reports in Atlanta and Winnipeg, Thrashers owners are in negotiations with True North Sports and Entertainment, which would relocate the team to Winnipeg.
