if Habs win the lottery and get 1st pick overall

if they get 1st pick overall, i'm sure they will go for Yakupov

now what would it take for them to pick-up something between 6th and 8th in an attempt to get Yakupov teammate and center Galchenyuk

Would Plekanec, Kristo, Weber and our 2nd round pick 32nd do, our second is equivalnt to a low first?

Thats likely around where the Leafs will finish. Good luck getting our pick if Galchenyuk is still on the table

It depends on the team but really Hab fans don't deserve this the way they treated Gomez and the way Montreal has fallen off.

if they want Galchenyuk they can pick him, hopefully the hockey gods let Yakupov go to Columbus or heaven forbid Edmonton.

I could see Galchenyuk going third.

no and here is the reasons why

Plekanek is 28 years old and slowing down
Kristo is in UNI and unknown
Weber is interesting

But if you want to move the canadians into another top 10 position for picking

Jarred Tinordi would be the starting point for any team and players like Nathan Beaulieu, D
Louis Leblanc, C and Alexei Emelin, D would enter into the discussion

Sabres are going to be trading for a franchise center with Roy and there 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders.

You could be bold and trade your 2013 1st..

but if the habs suck again you could be skipping on Mckinnon or Jones..

Columbus will end up with the 1st overall pick in the same way that the Penguins won the Crosby sweepstakes in 2005. The NHL has a vested interest in making sure Yakupov goes to one of the NHL's failing franchises. So if you think that the "lottery" will be conducted to actually allow a team to jump over the Blue Jackets, you're incredibly naive.

Consider also that Nash is likely gone by the draft/off-season (alienating fanbase through the loss of its sole superstar) meaning they'll need Yakupov more than ever. And with the All-Star Game in Columbus next year, they need some representation - Yakupov is meant to be just that - a draw for the city to start building a larger fanbase and eventually a competitive team.

Depends on a couple of things. Mostly how Galchenyuk performs once he's back in Sarnia's lineup and how he does in the OHL playoffs. If Sarnia wins the championship and plays in the Memorial Cup, with Galchenyuk playing a big role in it, I can absolutely see it happening.

I would think yes from Washington.

The package only works for them.

They already did, they gifted the Leafs a 1st line winger and a potential top pairing D.

Sorry, I shouldn't really be talking thrash right now with the way the leafs are playing.

The problem with that is it is unlikely the team currently owning a top 10 pick will go for it...those teams probably want someone now--they're getting that high a pick for a reason. So Montreal would definitely have to add something valuable that could make a more immediate impact to that pick.

Consider Ohio's unbelievable run of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in every sport over the last 50 years. Not only is losing the lottery a foregone conclusion for most of us, but it will probably be in some bizarre fashion....it'll be announced that Columbus has won, only to then realize that the winning number combination is actually Carolina's or something.

You think so? The Habs currently are 28th, 2 points ahead of Edmonton having played 2 more games than EDM. And the Habs are on a 5 games losing streak.

we have a deadbeat coach who doesn't have a clue (the habs were over .500 with martin), no markov, no gionta, disgruntled players everywhere and we just traded 3 players that made 11 million dollars in total salary for rene bourque essentially. oh yah, scott gomez gets powerplay time and mathieu darche plays with our best center too. the habs are clearly in tank mode, won't be surprised if they play budaj in 50% of the remaining games.
