Bishop's first game as a Senator

For those interested...
http://www.pressconnects.com/article...-as-B-Sens-win

Bishop saved 41 of 42 shots last night in a 5-1 win for Ottawa's AHL team against the #3 team in the AHL.

I hope he gets some time with the big club this year. He deserves it.

I still don't get why they gave up a 2nd round pick for him. He is most likely just going to be the back up next year.

I'm annoyed they gave the starting job to Lehner instead of him. Not becaues Lehner is bad, but I wanted to see Bishop get a chance to start some games until Anderson came back.

Probably because they were going to be looking at goalie depth this year anyway in the draft. and Bishop is about 2nd round worthy and this removes most of the risk you get with draft picks. its a smart move by both sides.

Do you know when Anderson's contract is up?

Exactly, they know what they're getting with Bishop for more than any draft pick.

He's certainly done his time in the AHL, and he's significantly improved himself. When you consider how long it takes to develop a goalie, in a sense, they're simply paying for the development of a known quantity if that makes any sense.

Disappointed Lehner starting over him.

You can be disappointed all you want, but Lehner pitched a 1-0 shutout.

Any time you get a huge goalie, who has good/fast reflexes, has learned positioning fairly well, proven himself in The AHL, and not embarrassed himself in a limited amount of NHL games, ....you keep him (Senators' point of view). The Blues would have liked to keep him, but were forced to deal him because of bad timing. He has the potential to be a very good NHL goalie. He's had a reasonably good development track.

That will be a good tandem with Bishop and Lehner.

Robin Lehner got his second start of the season the night before they traded for Bishop, the previous start being October 30th. Lehner got Ottawa a 5-2 win against the New York Islanders.

If Lehner would have lost that game, I think Lehner goes to Binghampton while Bishop goes straight to Ottawa. Instead Lehner gets the next start against Boston and promptly shuts the Bruins out while making 32 saves.

Lehner is making the most of his opportunity. So until he faulters, I think Bishop stays in Binghampton.

By the way, Craig Anderson is signed through the 2014-15 season.

What sucks is that the Blues finally developed a goalie that looks like he'll have success at the NHL level and we punch him out.

I guess a logjam at goalie is a good situation...

No. I doubt any team would want to go with a super inexperienced combo like Lehner-Bishop.

Anderson is expected to be the starter through till the end of his contract. Either Lehner of Bishop (Likely Bishop IMO) will be backing him up next year and whoever succeeds the most by the time Anderson's deal is up will succeed him as starter. Murray has already said that Bishop will get in at least one game before Anderson returns from injury. It just didn't seem prudent to send Lehner down after some solid outings.

#29 is St. Louisan Mike McKenna. I could only imagine what they are talking about. They are obviously talking about how much they miss toasted ravioli.

I'm pretty sure, Lehner has been sent back to Bingo, and we don't have much confidence in Auld so...

But not confirmed yet.
