No is the easy answer...

Komi is a shell of what he was with us, and while kaberle is brutal, Komi would be a lateral swap at best.

But, if we can't move kaberle in the summer for pick/prospect or a smaller cap hit/term on some other bottom pairing guy, Id definitely consider it.

With subban, Diaz, weber, kaberle's soft uninspired play is redundant. Komi would represent another overpaid bottom pairing dman, but in theory should be a better fit.

So NO is the answer assuming we can move kaberle... But if we can't? Kaberle for Komi +? I would probably do.

Oh, I know once Emelin has another year or 2 under his Belt he will become great at it. Just saying for the next 2 years, I would bring in Komi for a straight up swap for Kaberle. I don't see a defense with Kaberle, Markov and Diaz very hard to play against in our own zone and that worries me going forward. It would be a big risk to think Komi could find his old form, but one id be willing to take if we are ridding our self of a soft defenseman. Its all hypothetical as it won't happen, but I would do it.

Just for the hits, I would take Komi. They both sucks but at least Komi provides some physicality.

Kaberle provides offense. What's your point?

I loathe Kaberle & thinks he plays the game all wrong, but wouldn't do this trade, Komisarek is rapidly on his way to ECHL level. A physical player who never could skate and can't time hits correctly, and now can't even find guys in his own zone.

At least Kaberle gets the odd assist.

Never thought I'd see the day when having Syphilis would provide an advantage over being afflicted with TK. But there it is.

Kaberle wouldn't be as bad if our defense wasn't so soft, we can't have guys like him, Diaz, Weber and Campoli all in the lineup at once. At least Kaberle can help offensively which is why I'd take him over Komi who wouldn't help at either end.

Komisarek is overpaid more than Kaberle and a shell of his former self as well. Tough choice...but I'll take the smaller cap hit...for now

I would rather keep kaberle. Because i believe he needs to play bottom pairing minutes to be effective. Yes i know he is expensive, but if we can manage his ice time properly and play the right match ups i think id rather have him on the ice.

Komisarek cant move the puck at all. We already have a hard enough time leaving our zone as it is.

When Komisarek starts playing like crap (around game 2 of the season) you couldn't just waive him due to his modified NMC.

At least with Kaberle, he might net you a pick and 7th-8th dman OR you could just waive him.

More freedom with that contract. Not to mention a Dman who puts up 40 pts in a bad year could hold value in the offseason to teams like NYI.

No.

They are both overpaid but Kaberle at least has an offensive upside in case Markov gets injured. Just think there are more "Komisarek types" than "Kaberle types".

Having said that I don't like either player.

If Markov was 100% healthy and playing at the elite level he was before his injuries then yes maybe as i believe Markov may be one of the only guy who can bring the best out of Komi. Those two had good chemistry and fitted well together.

Now considering that it's not the case and probably never will be again then no. I used to like Komi but he has gone down the drain since joining the Leafs.

It's ridiculous how Kaberle's reputation is getting completely blown out of proportion. By the way people are talking, you'd think he was MAB.

He started going downhill in a Habs uniform after a certain beatdown in Boston.

I agree. I think Kaberle is an excellent depth defenseman.

Yeah but he wasn't as brutal as he is now.

Poor Komi. Well at least he had the time to cash in a big contract before going the suck route.
