Kinda curious about PRV in OKC, but I dont think it's a terrible thing. He's played terribly for most of the year, and most people on these boards were clamoring for a demotion. Sure, he comes back and plays well, but he can also play well in OKC.
I agree with you in the long run I'm just saying poor kid as far as this lost year of development goes. They should have let him play the entire season there, get comfortable and become a go-to guy in the AHL. Instead he's been flying to and from OKC and sitting in the press box. I'm just saying if they decided to send him down early in the year (which I agree with) then let him stay there and don't call him up and down only to put him in the press box.
Absolutely. As soon as he hit that brutal skid he should have been sent to OKC and stayed there for the whole year.
This team needs less Barker and more Sutton. Blerg.
Like Soli said or at least implied, the team obviously knows exactly what they're getting with Sutton (excepting some periodic dangles), Barker on the other hand is younger and is tracking as a bust, with some flashes of a good skill set.
Confidence is so key with these guys I think they're hoping if he plays to the end of the year they'll have a good idea whether or not he'll be a worthwhile d-man.
I'm totally OK with sending Paajarvi down to the AHL to hone his game and get in a Calder Cup run, as long as the Oilers are doing it his long term benefit...and when next September rolls around (assuming the players aren't locked out), he's given a clean slate and as good a chance as any to make himself a regular on the team again.
My worry is that Renney has some sort of axe to grind against the kid, and is doing a MacT-like "once you're in my bad books, you NEVER get back out" routine.
It's likely an irrational worry, but it's still there.
It just seems weird to me that last year, we had the MPS/Omark/Hartikainen line showing some decent chemistry last year when given a chance...and this year, all 3 of them have fallen down an elevator shaft. it's too bad.

Agreed for the most part until the last point.
I think all three have/had things to work on, so sending them down was the right move.
As for your irrational worry, it's one I kinda share so either we're both weird or something else maybe going on.
I just hope for the rest of the season, even if we suffer injuries, we leave guys like MPS and Lander down in OKC. Call up guys like Green. The young players would benefit more from the time down there imo.

Jeez... I hope we don't see Pajarrvi back... please... just let him play our the rest of the year in an environment that he's comfortable with. Let him be the first call-up for injury if you must... just don't waste his time giving him bottom 6 minutes on our team.... and that's all Renney will do with him this year.

I disagree with the notion of a "lost year of development." Paajarvi has faced some adversity this year. People with character develop more when they face adversity.
EDIT: He got an education on what he needs to do to play in the league.

PRV seems like a smart, hard working guy so I'm sure he will benefit from it in the long run. However, some more fragile prospects in years past have been stunted by seasons like this.
Anyone else think Tom Renney is mishandling our European players?
ask most everyone and they would tell you he's mishandling more than just Europeans. I think it's only people of Nordic bloodlines that believe Renney just ruins Europeans.

in fact i think tom just plain hates europe, at tleast thats what i have gathered from HF

That's fair. But at the same time, those fragile prospects likely aren't going to become more than complimentary type players at best anyways.
