Idea has merit.

Altho I kinda think Florida might just has what it takes...

Even if Florida doesn't knock them out, they'll be facing either Boston or Philly in the next round. That's hardly a cake-walk.

Well, in my dream scenario, Florida pastes them the rest of the way and then as soon as possible after they are eliminated, we trade for Parise's rights and sign him to that monster contract.

I want to revitalize this thread with summer coming up and also throw out an idea.

Jordan Staal.

Pittsburgh is having a little drama with there centers it sounds like these days; nothing crazy but it does sound like some egos are flaring up in Crosby, Malkin and Staal. Many trade rumors of course, the usual. I do have to wonder however, if:
A. It would be even reasonable to trade for Staal or would he be overvalued
2. Does Staal want more out of his career than just 3rd line C duties
and
D. Would he be able to help the Wild enough.

I know a lot of people want Parise. Yes, great so would I, sure. I personally think Parise is going to be overpaid by whomever picks him up by about 1.5-2 mil but whatever. What if we don't get him.

Why not Jordan Staal though? We still need a true #2 center. His contract is up in a year, he's young, he's exactly the type of player we're looking for in our system, he might want more than backing up Malkin and Crosby.

He's not a true #1C but he'ld be a great #2 and he could fill in when our Kaptain goes down and actually fill that gap for a little while.

I'm curious what you guys think.

I know some will point out that we have Granlund. Yes we do, but maybe he would be better playing wing. He is small and I'm still not completely convinced on his D game. I believe he would make a better wing at the NHL level.

two big issues i can see.

1: Price, staal wants to be #1, he feels he can be number one, i think he can be a decent number 1 in this league (please don't come in here and tell me, well a team like CBJ isn't going anywhere as long as staal is their number 1. CBJ ain't going anywhere with crosby.)

that is to say, the price it will take to acquire him is going to be high, i don't think GMCF would bite on it at all, however if the price were right i would think GMCF would be on him.

2: Youth, i think if there price was right GMCF would do it, but given the price and the upcoming youth at center i think GMCF would avoid this trade.

3: i can be very wrong on it, here i'll make a thread on the trade board.

There's already a multi-purpose Staal trade thread on the Mainboard - right here.

I think J. Staal could be a #1C, but...
  1. Minnesota's prospect pool is loaded with center depth.
  2. I'd rather not trade for Staal when there's only one year left on his contract.

Wouldn't mind Staal at #2 center but they'd want our 1st for starters and I don't think it's worth it.

Staal is not a #1 center in terms of production. Koivu is, barely. Staal is not as skilled or productive as Koivu.

Trading for Staal would require Bouchard or Cullen going the other way too.

The main reason where won't get Staal though is that the Pens are going to ask for a top pairing young Dman to come back. We don't one to spare that.

As I mentioned when someone else proposed a Staal trade:

Sure he's young, but he's UFA after next season. As far as I'm concerned, that means he's just here for one year. I'm not willing to part with any meaningful amount of assets for a single year of any potentially available player in the league.

Staal will go to the first team that can provide: top pairing young Dman, decent 3rd line center with upside (Brodziak/Bolland), and a winger prospect.

And that just because centers like Staal don't become available that often. However, I can see the Wild making that trade and then getting burned when Staal tops out as a so-so 2nd line center.

So we'd be looking at:

Scandella or Brodin
Brodziak
Zucker/Bulmer

Yuck. Definitely would not be doing that trade.

I figured I'd give this thread a bump since all trade proposals involving Wild players aren't necessarily bad ones.

I put up an open-ended proposal just a few minutes ago so you guys can't call it a bad one since it was designed to have players added to it.

I think some more rationale behind my proposal (although I didn't post it) is that the acquisition of Bacstrom could help Crawford. Backstrom would definitely push Crawford to perform better if he wants to keep his job with the Hawks and I think Backs could be a good mentor for Crawford as well.

The salary says otherwise.

Also, Emery has bad reputation IMO. I really don't want that guy at all.

Neither do I, but I just don't think most Hawk fans would be willing to give up both Hjalmarsson and Crawford for just Backstrom.

Why not? Crawford's pretty bad. They're basically dumping salary by getting rid of him.

idk if im the only fan that thinks this, but when i think of us being #1 in the league again, or looking to finish strong to keep a playoff spot, im think backstom's the one helping us get there. Don't see us at all being able to rely on harding or hackett, or a newly traded player who has to get settled in and may not pan out.

regardless of backstroms contract, hes a good goalie. Not to mention all the new hype with granlund and other prospects coming, and possible good free agents. There is alot to be excited about and work hard for over the summer.
