I trust their judgement. If they believe that he is good enough now to play a role for this team, then it is worth burning a year of the ELC.

Considering the importance of managing our finances well, I can't imagine that they see this solely as experience for him. Excited to see him on the ice.

So he will join the team in Chicago eh? Does he play, or will he share the press box with everyone else?

I'm a little surprised but I'm certainly happy for the kid! It's going to be a big jump from college to the NHL though. I'll be interested to see how he handles himself physically and if he'll be able toget up to speed to contribute more to the team than whoever he ends up replacing in the lineup (if/when he gets in a lineup). I really wish the kid well though! I think win his hockey sense he's going to be a great playmaker in the NHL but I'm not going to expect a ton out of him right away.

Thanks! Good to know. Love the Ron Swanson avatar, by the way.

I would imagine that the 9 game rookie rule would apply to him. since there's only 12 (regular season)games left, he can finish out most of the regular season with us and we can get a good look at if we need him for the upcoming playoffs.

Pietro did the 9 game thing a couple of years in a row before he stuck, but, I think, since he played a total of more than 15, he wasn't eligible for Calder nominations.

I could easily see us playing him in 8 or less regular season games to see if he would help in the playoffs. If he can be an asset in the playoffs, then he plays more than 9 games, if not, he still gets to practice with the team.

The team has a limited number of call-ups after the trade deadline. Does signing a player from college count against that limit? If not, I understand better why it might make sense to have him practice with the team before deciding whether to send him down.

I would think they would let him practice a few times with the team, see how much faster the game really is, and then get him into game action. They have a few days off back home before heading out west after these east coast games. I would think the west coast would be his first game action, and as others have said, let him play his 8 or 9 games, and then decide if he is ready to play with the team in the playoffs. I also think this doesnt sound good for Steen to be coming back this year.

Anyone else think the org may want to see what they have in jaden so they can make a decision on resigning or trading Stewart?

Seems most likely that he'll get time on the third line with Arnott, but he could always move up if he's playing well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some PP time in his second game.

They play on opposite sides, so I doubt it. Tarasenko's the only guy (in house) that could replace Stewart.

For ELC purposes, Jaden is considered 20 (turne 20 the year he signed) so the 9 game trial doesn't come into play. That's only for 18 & 19 yr olds so this season counts as the first year of his ELC no matter what. He could just practice with the Blues and it would still be the first year of his contract.

I wish the kid well! I'll be interested to see if/when he'll be inserted into the lineup.

Oh, well then obviously they plan on playing him.

JR just tweeted "This is speculation, but what does Schwartz addition say about possible returns of Steen and D'Agostini?" so it sounds like a few players are in question. Either way, it makes sense to play it safe and explore outside options. Great deal for Schwartz and the Blues. I'm absolutely shocked...really didn't see this coming, and Strickland deserves some credit IMO for getting the early scoop.

Nope. As pointed out, he is LW and Stewart is RW. I would say that this is probably more to do with the probability of Steen returning.

Strickland deserves some credibility now. Whether you think he is an ass or not, he is not Eklund.

Wow. I have some crow to eat, I didn't think he was ready for the NHL next year, let alone this year. I trust our management all the way though, hope he does well.

If Hitchcock likes Perron as a RW, and Schwartz performs well, it could increase the possibility of Stewart being traded.
