Rangers @ Canes, 7 p.m., RBPNC Arenacenter

I had a thought about Ruutu and didn't know where to post it, and I noticed we didn't have a GDT yet, so I put one and one together and got three.

Anyhow, I'm sure one of you will flesh out the details of tonight's game much better than I ever could, but my thought on Ruutu ...

What if his cautious and uninspired play the first half of this season was less a result of fear of suspension and more a side effect of his pending free agency. For a guy as susceptible to long-term injuries as he is (and yes I know, he's not as injury-prone as most think, but when he does get hurt, he tends to miss a bunch of time, which is my point here), he may have put it on cruise control early in hopes of not getting hurt to prevent going into free agency with questions circling about his ability to stay healthy.

With the security of a new deal, maybe he'll be the old Tuomo when he comes back. If that's the case, I'm not as down on his re-signing as I was. He really is a top-6 forward (as opposed to Jokinen, who is a poser) and we need those badly.

As for the game, I don't even know who's in or out for either team. I'd just like to see more of the same from the guys, in terms of effort and offensive pressure.

You could be right on Ruutu, but I really hope you're not. Ruutu's been more effective this year than any other time in recent memory, PLUS we've got him for 4 more years.

From a Canes standpoint, this is when you WANT him to display caution. If he injures himself before he gets that extension, we can get him cheaper or simply not resign him. Now, we're stuck with him for 4 years.

Play as you have, Ruutu.

Fear of suspension was a theory for his soft play, but he ramped it up a bit long before he got hurt/was signed.

Biron in, Callahan out tonight.

With the above, plus the fact that we're at home, I'll put the odds at just about even tonight...

That said, 5-1 loss.

Didn't John and Tripp say that Ruutu was having such problems with his ankles over the summer that he wasn't even sure if he was going to be able to play hockey anymore? I think it was in the Ducks broadcast when they were talking about Ruutu being friends with Selanne.

Pretty sure that was several years ago, before he was a Cane...

You guys have been playing well -- especially Staal.

I'm predicting a 3-point game. 3-2 in OT. Can't say who the winner is going to be.

Here is to a safe, clean game!

I can. If it goes to OT the Canes lose.

I'm with DaveG on this: no more OTLs. They're not fun for anyone at this point. Win or lose in regulation please.

It's sad to know that if they were .500 in OT instead of 2-13 they'd be 2-3 points out of a playoff spot right now.

yep, been on the anti-OTL campaign for a while now, this is when it's especially important. I don't care how we win (unless we're playing someone we're chasing for 8th or the division, then win in regulation), but if we lose it damn well better be in regulation.

No OTL. No shoot out. No crepes, no Allen celebratory skate fail. And if I'm lucky no Potvin Sucks whistler will be sitting directly behind me after hitting the StubHub jackpot.

I predict Canes win 2-1, which means that my confidence will be smashed when we lose 3-1.

I'm actually disappointed Biron is starting. Lundqivst and Ward seem to bring the best out of each other.

It didn't turn out quite as well as I thought it would with the time I had to edit the original video. Might give it a re-working later.

I noticed the avatar and the account name, but missed the Canes jersey. Must've been looking at another part of the picture.

My gf tried to find a storm squad outfit. Unfortunately for me, she had no luck

Also, you guys should check out the habs gdt for tonight. They have a pretty funny gif right at the start. Look for Staal in drag.
