I mean come on, we've only lost 10 stanley cups with these wins after all...
People can laugh all they want at that, but Chicago fans know full well how losing a simple tiebreaker was a huge key to winning Lord Stanley. Forget about a couple points, it can come down to even less.
Just curious, what player at #3 or #4, that won't be there at #6 or #7, will have such a devastating impact on the future of our team?
No specific names need to be mentioned. History tells us that whoever is picked in those higher spots will likely be superior to the guys picked lower. Sometimes they're far superior. And plus, #3/#4 hold far more value to other teams than #6/#7. It's as simple as that.

So you'd advocate trading down from that spot? You're saying that the fact that we only get a 3rd rounder, rather than a 2nd, could doom us to future mediocrity?
I am asking for specific names. The fact that I've seen 3-4 names being put into that #2 spot tells me that it's less important than in past years.

Not at all. I personally wouldn't even think about trading down from #3 or #4. However it does hold a lot more value because teams know the odds. If you were the type that felt like #7 was as good as #4 (which I think is stupid, but whatever), it would be like getting a free high draft pick or more.
Again, there's no point to naming names. It's all about the odds. The names change from year to year. The odds don't.

I think this draft could be like 2004...Barker was taken 3rd overall...The defensemen in this draft all have their warts and that makes it hard to predict who will take who, because one team might not value those warts as another team, so they might take someone higher than we expect.
I understand the odds; I don't understand the doomsday mindset surrounding them. There are too many other variables.
It's not that it will be doomsday. It's that it's a big variable. It's like going into a fight and leaving a weapon or two behind that was free to grab. Of the six teams that have won the Cup since the lockout, I doubt three of them win it without their top draft picks. You need things to go your way to win it all. Maybe this year we would have gotten lucky and drafted #1.

Personally, rather be number 1 next year. I like Nail but I don't think he's an Ovechkin or a Crosby. MacKinnon on the other hand? Possibly.
This draft is funky and I really am getting the vibe that it's not as good as people think it is. Might be a bit deep, so teams WANT multiple draft picks but not necessarily the top 10 picks in this year's draft.
