I think my heart stopped when reading this before in Twitter. I don't want to think the worst, but Dineen hasn't had the best reputation of reporting the severity of injuries this season. I really hope this is indeed not true as it would be a huge blow to not just our lineup for the rest of the season, but the playoffs as well.
does anyone think our style of play or lack thereof leads to the amount of injuries. Consistently year over year this team has to be in the top ten in man games lost.
I have to question what is going wrong and what the hell are our trainers doing?

I think our trainers don't really know what they are doing. I was in school for Massage therapy as well as Personal training and while I can only say what my instructor/friend told me, he did say that he himself applied for a job as their trainer/one of the trainers and he was denied. He said they aren't doing proper exercises and don't strength train properly. He's licensed and certified and knows his stuff, not just some meathead with a big ego. I believe what he says because I've seen him work and it does make sense considering all the injuries this team has and not too many are due to contact injury during a game.

It is a curious phenomenom, and one I hope Tallon & Santos look into.
Anyone know who he is?
Doesn't seem like just some random guy. GR re-tweeted him.
Producer for XM NHL Ice or something. He's the guy who started the Crosby concussion ball rolling this past summer saying he heard from sources Crosby may not be ready for the season. While he was correct about that (though to be fair it was a 50/50 chance), he also noted that he had heard from 3 sources that Crosby was dealing with a knee injury which was not true.
Needless to say, he has sources and seems to have a respected opinion, but that doesn't always make him right. Definitely hope this is one of his miss situations.
Hopefully this isn't as serious as this sounds. This could be a huge blow to the Panthers. The secondary scoring would definitely need to step up big time for the remainder of this season and going into playoffs.
Don't think so, Gizmo, we still have guys we can call up.
Seems weird, never heard of the guy before, and out of nowhere he comes out with an injury like this? May be true, but again, I'll wait for the official word.

It would be a blow if it's more serious. But so far the comments from Dineen have been of the variety, "Versteeg wants to play but is a little banged up" and "He has a little bit of a lower-body injury that has been bugging him for about a week" and "He wanted to play through it but isn't 100%".
None of that sounds like it's something that might require surgery, but they could be just withholding the real info. Still, at this point it sounds more like something that maybe Weiss has been playing through without disclosure in his case. I'll remain hopeful until the official word like you said.
I think its a bit premature right now since we dont know the facts. Im going to wait for more info from the team and/or GR before jumping to conclusions. Dont you think though that if Tallon knew this information, wouldnt he have made another move on Monday, considering he lost his top producer? I dont believe he would have said he was happy with the roster right now, without Versteeg.

Not really.
1. From comments made, it seems like anything that happens the rest of the way is just gravy to Tallon/Santos.
2. At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if they feel like they can make the playoffs with or without Versteeg.
The additions of Wolski and Smithson provide more depth which is what we've relied on all year, really - depth and goaltending.
Varying degrees, no guarantee that we're going to be screwed. I'm hoping for the best.
Just a comment regarding the training staff; when guys are getting hit at the speeds they're skating or even skating at that speed with all of the power and energy it takes to shift directions or absorb contact while trying to shoot, there are so many forces on all parts of the body that it's almost impossible to avoid injury. Perhaps our training staff isn't the best in the league and we do seem to have a string of injuries like sports hernias or groin pulls that should be lessened, but for guys to be out due to concussions or something like a torn labrum for Versteeg, the blame certainly IMO is not resting on the training staff.
Most of it's on the players in the offseason to get into the best shape possible so that they hold up. There's only so much anabolic training you can do once the season is underway. Keeping weight on and maintaining strength is the big challenge with the rigors of the schedule and for a smaller guy like steeg, it's no surprise that he's vulnerable once in a while.
Not sure how realiable this source is but I thought i'd post it -

Contrary to reports, #Panthers Kris Versteeg won't need surgery on labrum tear. Says will miss 2-3 wks max. 2nd opinion unveiled Thurs.
Seems like it isn't too serious, hoping for the best!
