Zibanejad Now? Yes or No

From the Citizen

Senators assistant GM Tim Murray plans to speak with Mika Zibanejad’s representatives this week. The Senators aren’t sure they want to burn a year on the contract if he’s not a regular here. That decision will be made in the next 10 days or so. He could go to Binghamton ...

Pretty simple - do we make place this year from him and burn a year off the entry level contract?

From the talk on the Team1200(unreliable) they say that Zibanejad could be loaned to Bingo without burning a year off his ELC... If thats the case, do it... If it means burning a year off his ELC to play in Ottawa then I would say no... Let him get an extended offseason to train and get stronger... He didnt overwhelm in the SEL so I doubt he will be a difference maker in the NHL

I'm assuming that his SEL season is done?

I'd love to see what we have.

If Bingo keeps the year then that is the place to start for sure.

I agree his time in Sweden has been underwhelming. We need to figure out if he's a Centre or a RW for the NA game. I still think Centre, but he needs to put on some weight and strength. I think the concensus is RW.

Depends, if Linköping gets least one more point in todays game than Djurgården he will have to play more games with Djurgården, trying to stay in SEL. Think that serie will start 15 march and end like 20-25 days later or something like that.

I say Ottawa, if anything. Kid wasn't far off when he was here last. He'll probably be an upgrade over guys like Condra/Daug/Konopka/etc.

Also, don't wanna send him to the AHL. Only have 2 call-ups left. Gotta make them count. No point in wasting it on a guy we don't have to send to the A.

Can he not play in the WC's?

What about Silfverberg and Claesson? Should they not be considered aswell?

If this is possible, do it.

If Zibanejad REALLY looks like he's flourishing in Bingo, then maybe call him up, if you think he'll be a difference-maker in the playoffs. I can't think of a better teaching tool than being a part of the NHL playoffs, but you have to be sure he's ready for it. Don't throw him out there and put him in a situation where he's not going to get anything out of it.

Question: IF placing Zibanejad in Bingo doesn't burn a year of his ELC, can we call him up for the playoffs without burning a year, either? Does the CBA only regard REGULAR SEASON games as counting towards burning a year off his ELC? Are the playoffs essentially "free" in that regard?

Great question.

If so, that SHOULD be the obvious choice. I'll try and find it in the CBA.

In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC
with a Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season under that
SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry Level System shall be
extended for a period of one (1) year

Based on that, I would assume that playoff games would also count.

Eh, they don't really clarify regular season vs post season.

It's pretty unclear.

Dorion also mentioned they see Zibanejad as more of a winger than center in the NHL. A lot of us have talked about it previously, but interested to finally here Sens brass acknowledge it. If Mika was stoked for it, I'd also send him to Bingo and if he is lights out, gotta consider bringing him up if he can help us down the stretch or in the playoffs. No small consideration, but winning in the playoffs has to take precedence versus burning a year.

If sending him to Bingo Doesn't Burn a year off his contract then they should do it for sure. The only thing is he will be exposed to a Losing environment in the SEL and in Binghamton because the binghamton senators are losers.

I always said he would be a winger for Ottawa.

Definitely wouldn't mind him being in Bingo. It doesn't sound like Djurgarden has been a that great of a fit for him this year. Might as well get him with our coaches.

Yes, I would assume they would be. Silfverberg's team is closer to playoffs though.

Still...I'd like to see what is coming (all three of them) even if its Binghamton for a few games.

They just set their Clear Day Roster, but are not making the Playoffs I fear.

If they shine, maybe Ottawa uses them for our POs

Bingo if anywhere if it doesn't burn a year on the ELC. He would not bring anything to the Sens lineup since he hasn't been that impressive in the SEL this year, he has been a bit of a disappointment actually..

Bingo, but ONLY if it indeed doesn't burn a year off his contract.

I voted "not yet, keep the year on his contract" but if it doesn't burn up a year to have him play in the AHL then i'm all for it and actually hope for it.

Why would it burn a year in the AHL? ELC issues only factor in NHL games, no? Players that are in Bingo all year don't burn a year on their ELCs.
Lehner's there to show him the sites of Bingo, and in the afternoon he can have a nap ;-).

Would be good to see him in Bingo, at that level. Get some KK wisdom into him for a few games.

Juniors don't often, or maybe never, play in the WC for Sweden...unless they are already nhlers. Doubtful zibanejad would play.

Silfverberg will be on that team.

No rush for Claesson, have to negotiate contract as well.

No question, if you can get him to bingo with no contract burn, do it.
