Dennis Wideman was traded to & just signed with Calgary 5 years & just north of 26 mil & the Washington Capitals received a fifth-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft and AHL-level defenseman Jordan Henry in the trade.

contracts like widemans are the reason for ridiculous money thrown around... if only every other GM was like poile and actually thought out their moves...

Wideman is a servicable d man and certainly played perhaps his best hockey this year for the Caps. But no way worth this kind of term and cap hit.

This is a stupid contract. And the owners/League are about to sit across the table and claim they are not getting enough of the profits (!). Owners and Management needs to take a long look in the mirror with deals like this being made.

Not that the players are immune to this kind of selective blindness on some issues, but really...

If crosby is getting the 9 million per year as the games best player, I think it sets the Weber contract to max at 8.5 and Suter to 8.

I think 23.5 to sink into 3 players is a lot, but with all these kids around, and if we have the revolving door of kids/promote them/kick out the old when it is time we can swing this. Every team should have 3-4 players in this 7-8 million range shortly, unless they locked them up a few years ago like chicago did with keith.

9 Million in todays numbers is closer to 12 or 14 million.

well, if reports are true, 9 million is 8.7 million in todays numbers as that is his cap hit when this deal goes into effect.

Quick re-signed for 10 years

Appearently the last three years taper off to lower the cap hit, but the frist 7 years are 7 million per. Sound familiar?

It's been a crazy day.

Between Quick and Crosby, almost 175 million was agreed on today

What does everyone think about Jokinen? Not returning to the Flames. We could desperately use a solid Center; both Fisher and Legwand are playing a line above where they should be imo.

Depends on the price, and it's debatable if he would be a more effective option in the top 6 than Fisher or Legwand on this team. He's another set-up guy, though, when we could really use a finisher. I'd take a flyer on him for cheap, but I have a feeling Poile is looking more toward a bottom 6 C than a top 6, assuming Gaustad doesn't re-sign.

no thanks. don't sign someone just cause. he isn't a significant upgrade over over our 2 centers really.. on both sides of the ice. unless its cheap, ill pass..

if we are having trouble reaching the floor.. then maybe a 2 year deal at 3.5 million per year

Jokinen is a yes for me, under 5 mil. Unless we get Parise, because we can't fit them both.

We should get Jokinen just for the gifs. He's a legend on this site just for his antics.

Jokinen is a solid 60 point center whose had some of his best years in "lower pressure hockey markets" (Florida and Phoenix). Offensively, he's a definite upgrade on our current centers. IF the price is right, I'm certainly in favor.

Edit: However, my prediction is that the Panthers sign him back before the end of July 3rd.

Sounds like the Devs are totally broke and can't re-sign anyone. Brodeur included.

Brodeur hitting free agency....

Nothing makes sense any more. Oh, and if he goes to Toronto

I will laugh if Toronto does something silly, signs Brodeur and then trades for Luongo.

Or he is just getting leverage for his last deal in the NHL...

He just hired an agent. He was expecting a deal done a long time ago, but the Devils haven't come through. Parise, another face of the team, likely gone as well and this right after making the finals.

He's just taking the "Eddie Belfour" twilight tour through the NHL. Although, I don't think he'll go through as many teams as the Eagle did.

How bad do you want Garrison, regardless if you get Suter back or not?
