Yeah that Penguin game could be huge, but it will likely be separated by then, IMO.

I'll update the magic numbers a little later, but I'd just like to mention we clinched a top-7 seeding.

Edit - Updated.

Looks like the Pens got this.

Only 1 point behind.

The Rangers need to win their next 4-5 games because they're last 4-5 games are really hard.

The next 3 are definitely winnable.

Winnable? Yes. But buffalo has been playing extremely well lately and they're fighting for the playoffs so they'll be coming out on fire.

Updated to include games on 3/22. Pretty much nothing changed.

We need either one point or any Ottawa loss to clinch a top-6 spot.

Gotta get at least 7-8 points out of the next 5 games. Pens will eventually slip up. The game on 4/5 will prob decide the conference.

Neither the Pens or the Rangers are going to win out most likely. Still thinking 111 will clinch with Pittsburgh sitting at 109-110, or vice versa.

Not trolling guys, but just a question. Does anyone know what the highest point total has been for a team to finish fourth? I can see the Pens finishing with 108 or so points and still having the four spot.

Since the lockout:

Buffalo with 110 points in 05-06
Nashville with 110 points in 06-07

Updated to include games on 3/23.

We now don't control our own destiny for the Atlantic Division or the President's Trophy and the Ottawa soon-to-be loss will clinch us a top-6 spot.

Yes we do, we have a game remaining with the Penguins.

We have more points, how don't we control our destiny?

And one page one, why are we listed in 4th when we are in 1st.

Pens have a game in hand, but we do play them one more time. So I guess technically we still control where we will end up.

We have more points than they do.

Its not "technical"

They're not winning out the rest of the season.

We have two more division games.

And we have four consecutive games against four bad teams.

If the Rangers keep pace with the Pens and beat them in the hth game, then Rangers would be in first again. It's just a matter of when the Pens unbeaten streak finally ends. It can't go forever...

Because the table is listed as theoretical values of where teams will finish assuming they win every remaining game. Hence "total possible points." It has nothing to do with where they actually currently stand.

Right now the Penguins have the chance to finish one point higher than the Rangers assuming both teams win all remaining games. So in theory, based on the math, Pittburgh has the lock on 1st overall.

Okay, to remove the confusion here, I'll put us back in first.

I had to make Pittsburgh's total possible points one less than it could possibly get to because I'm now assuming we beat them.

I'm amazed how quickly people are sucked right back into "[INSERT TEAM HERE] IS UNBEATABLE, LOOK AT HOW MANY GAMES THEY'VE WON" considering what the Bruins did earlier this season. We saw how that's turned out.
