We all know Dustin Brown was a great pick for us in 2003 and with him being an LA King I don't think he's gotten enough recognition by HF. I know it's still early in the season and in his career but here's a quick look at how Dustin Brown is doing compared to some of those in his draft year. Note many of these players are playing in the AHL with Brown this season, and I'm not saying who's better than who but take a look at the numbers.
2003 Draft
1. Marc-Andre Fleury: Penguins (AHL) 6 GP 3-3-0 2.84 GAA
2. Eric Staal: Lock Monsters (AHL) 7 GP 4 G 6 A 10 PTS
3. Nathan Horton: Rampage (AHL) 4 GP 1 G 0A 1 PT
4. Nikolai Zheredev: CSKA (RSL) 19 GP 6G 8 14PTS
5. Thomas Vanek: American (AHL) 8GP 3G 0A 3PTS
6. Milan Michalek: Barons (AHL) INJURED

just want to say wow to jeff carter's stats...i thought he was a bust at 11 but i guess he's showing me i'm wrong...
That's the OHL though.
Let's face it the only reason the DB has dropped on ranking is because he went to LA and missed a good part of the season. When people don't get to see a youngster play, LA(yeah who watches the Kings but us ), no WJC(out injured) and he didn't light up a junior league or college like some others did; they start thinking that the player hasn't progressed.

well, it's still early int he season, so lets not go jumping around and partying yet. i do feel DB is as legit as it gets though, I have no doubt that he will not only be a second liner on any team in the league within 3 years, but will even push for a first line position in 5 years. my only concern for him is his style of play will most likley lead to a career plagued by injuries. oh well, he's a great player, i hope we keep him for a long time.
Wow, Kinglewood, you pick a hell of a day to make a thread about Dustin Brown.
So I say before every Monarch game, you make a thread about an individual Monarch's stats. How about Clarke next?
Well how about Denis Grebeshkov, 3 assists not bad either.
The best part about the Monarchs incredible start is that the players who are supposed to be scoring aren't just contributing, they're blowing away the competition.

It was a joke. A very bad one, in fact
Anyways, I agree. This is the 6th out of 9 games they have scored at least 5 goals. It's also the 6th time out of 9 games they've kept the opposition to 2 goals or fewer.

well i guess it makes a big difference then...LOL!
By comparison:
Corey Perry taken 28th in 03' is 1st.
Evan McGrath taken 146th in 04' is 2nd
Patrick O'Sullivan taken 56th in 03' is 3rd
Rob Schremp taken 25th in 04' is 4th.
Now, stats never tell the whole story, and in this case, because the reason why people are so high on Carter are his raw skills.
Right now he's a great skater, with a huge frame with slick stickhanlding skills and a bullet wrister, but he still hasn't learned to use them all. Time will tell. He could end up being the Mike Modano/Eric Staal clone that some people have compared him to. Or, he could end up one of those type who never put them altogether at the NHL level.
There's a reason why Brown was 2nd on CSB's list. The way I see their rankings, they are based not only on pure skill(like some publications) but also on the likely potential of reaching the NHL.
Even in Brown's first game you could tell he was going to be an NHLer at some level. Guys like Carter and Kostitsyn who were ranked higher in certain publications are boom or bust. They could end up much better, or they could end up with just a handful of games. Brown will have a steady career. I don't think there's any doubt about that.
