I don't think there will be an amnesty clause as much as another buyout period again that will not count against the cap. Philly could spread out 2/3 of Bryz's cap hit by 2x the length of the contract which would give them some real flexibility in the cap. That's a huge contract to buyout though, so it's probably not likely unless someone is losing their job in management.

If Brian Burke gets his way, GM's will be able to trade cash/cap space to help reduce a cap hit in a trade. I see that as an even more likely scenario and Bryz ends up somewhere like the Hawks.

It is far too early to talk about buying out Bryz' contract. Earlier this season, Vancouver fans were talking about the Loungo bad contract and that Corey Schneider should be the #1 goalie. Then Loungo starts to play like the elite goalie he is supposed to be and everything is wonderful.
BTW, Bryz got a shutout last night. Gee, what if he goes on a tear, plays in the playoffs like he did the year the Ducks won the cup, only this time Philly wins the cup. Then the contract will look like a stroke of genious.

Bryzgalov has been playing a lot better as of late. Since the all-star game his stats are: 13GP, 6W, 3L, 2OTL, 2.03 GAA, .920 save %, although there has been a couple of stinkers in there as well. He seems to be doing better since he has been starting almost every game. Hopefully as a Flyers fan he keeps it up.

I like how Phoenix plays a very strong defensive system game. With that style, the goaltending isn't quite as important and you can get away with a cheaper option as it is not worth investing a ton of money into the small difference an average goalie and a premier (not saying Bryz was a premier goalie) goaltender will give you. The Flyers always approached it as if the goalies did not matter but never really ran a system that this point was true for, in a run and gun type system the goalie is very important to save the team from the many chances they will also give up. Of course I haven't seen enough Phoenix games to rule out the fact Smith may have improved his game to the point where he is playing like a star goalie.
