Rumor from RDS that BUF & SJS are interested in Yanni Gourde (F) from the Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL). Gourde leads the Q in points with 34-83-117 this season.
Interesting. Thanks for the links.

Is Cameron Wind (D) of the Brampton Battalion (OHL) unattached? I see that he was just voted "best defensive defenceman and best body checker in the Eastern Conference." Idk much about him, outside of his stats and having been released from ATO's with Nashville and Bridgeport.

I don't know about his rights - I don't believe he's free to sign anywhere and belongs to NYI but I defer to jfb - but the kid defines "stay at home"... Poor skater And isn't a towering presence at 6' or 6'1 and 210 lbs. He can hit, though.

His rights aren't owned by an NHL team and if he goes unclaimed in the upcoming draft he will officially be a free agent.
Major junior players sometimes sign ATO's with minor pro teams after their seasons are over, but it's not very common (the only other one I can think of is Andrew Agozzino, who signed with Peoria in 2010).
As long as their rights are not owned by an NHL organization, they are free to sign with whichever team they please and after their try-out is over, they remain a free agent.
I'd guess that most teams avoid this because if the player has any notable success, someone would likely select the player in the draft.
If it was me, I'd rather use all of my picks in a given year on players that I am more sure of and leave the fliers to summer camps.
Even then, he just doesn't have enough upside to draft, as his ceiling is a bottom pairing defensive specialist.
If a good organization picks him up, they can probably get a player out of him, but he's just not worth spending a pick on.

Racked up HE 2nd team All-star and Best Defensive Forward awards. Not to mention somehow keeping the Terriers afloat as captain despite all the off-ice problems with the team. He really picked up his game after Coyle/Trivino left and now the whole Nicastro situation...
Poor man's Jason Pominville...would absolutely LOVE to see him brought into the organization.

Homerific? But I like him, too. Been a follower of the team since my good friend was good friends with the team as a member of w lax. Good people who like(d) to party.

I make no attempts to hide my homerism. I just love the kid, have since he was a Freshman.

He is a little on the short side however and that is a little worrisome to me. That said signing guys like Connolly and Gourde wouldn't upset me at all, they would be projects with really no risk attached to them.
The guy I want is Mark Zengerele, but after jfb's post on him he may not be available.

Exactly, it's low risk, high reward when you sign these type of players. Especially with an ECHL affiliation in tow. Worst case scenario--they provide bodies to fill out the AHL roster (which we know they need), especially up front where the prospect pool is much thinner. Best case scenario is obviously they develop into NHL players, which you can't rule out. I think Connolly could become a nice 3rd line checker IMO.
Everyone's favorite trade target Riley Sheahan has foregone has final year of eligibility at Notre Dame and signed an ATO with the Grand Rapids Griffins, which means he'll likely get an ELC soon.
He's not a UFA, but other draftee signings have been posted here and it's a better fit here than in Around The NHL..
It should be interesting to see how he progresses as a professional.
He was just never able to put it together in college.
