The Red Wings may have moved one step closer to changing from buyers to sellers at the deadline. Slumping badly, and in a four way dog fight for the final play-off spot, the team received news that it’s leading point producer, Brad Boyes, is gone for the year with a torn knee ligament.
Armed with significant cap room the team had been exploring trade options to improve it’s blueline and was rumored to be getting close to a deal with a couple of teams for a true rental player. Already reluctant to be trading assets in a short sighted move the team may have to reflect on whether they want to back off now that Boyes is going to be out and instead go into selling mode.
Make sure you can't find a rental forward that meets your needs first. The Capitals elders may be moving at a reasonable price. Just throwing it out there. Boyes is a big loss for sure though.
Tough time to be a seller... Lots of bargains out there, and almost no buyers. Don't count yourself out just yet.
Bargains haha anyone ive been intrested in take an arm and a leg to move were like the NHL right now 1st for Gaustad :s its why nobody is really moving

Guess it depends what you're shopping for. Top-6/top-4 players who will still be impact players next season? Yeah, those guys don't come cheaply. But there are a lot of parts out there with very useable ratings that can be had for very good prices. It's not about the name on the back of the jersey - it's about the key ratings for their position and role.

Please post all your Bargain players and what your are looking for...please do not post 'YOUTH' cause all NHL players are youth compared to my age so I may and up offering you what I consider youth in return for your older players.

I'll assume you're not asking me to do this, so much as all GMs with pieces to shop.
That being the case, might want to post this in the Players Available thread. (Although that's sort of what this discussion has morphed into, isn't it? Sorry!)

Yes. I will move Gaustad for a first (or a second!) Thanks Z
EDIT: Doug says I should say I'm serious that Gaustad is actually on the block. Great ratings. Good contract. UFA. Will look at all offers not just draft picks

Can someone forward me one of these bargains? Getting a rental defenceman is like pulling teeth...
I hear you Adil. I was also chasing a rental dman and having the same 'challenges' as yourself. I made just one deal (pending approval) that was reasonable but definitely no steal for a 20 game rental. With me out of bidding and so many sellers you might now find you get a better deal as some of those GM's start to panic.
Edit: The deal has been approved and Pavel Kubina will be joining the Wings for the balance of this season. Had the deal not already been so close to completion when Boyes got injured this deal many not have happened. Going to NJ in return is Brett Festerling and Detroit's 2012 3rd.

Looks like a good addition. And there are a lot more forwards on the market than there are blueliners, so you should be able to find someone who can fill in for Boyes without too much difficulty.
Good return for Rich on an asset he wasn't going to re-sign. Good in HFNHL valuation, anyway - in the NHL Kubina's apparently worth a second, a fourth and a minor leaguer, but we value picks more highly than the NHL. They don't call us Hockey's *Future* NHL for nothing!
Hamrlik and Spacek are available. They have decent (Low 2nd or Decent Prospect) pricetags but as veterans, their ratings are fairly locked in. I suspect one will likely retire at the end of the season.

If it's not already out there by now, anyone want my third round pick send me a servicable dman I've got a couple of options but nothing looks particularly good...

I think there's a difference between "serviceable" and "top pairing on the Leafs" which might be skewing the asking price. I know that the player you wanted from me, along with a few others that you've pitched for would be equivalent or possibly even better than anything the Leafs already have. I won't speak for the others, but if I know my player is going to have a big impact for the other team I'm going to want a little more...but I'm a bit of a jerk like that.
