Please help me to understand the difference between signed and non-signed prospect.
Is Beaulieu, Bournival, Kristo and Holland signed ? What happens if they aren't signed ?
Someone is going to give more details and I could be wrong on some things but here's what I know :
We only hold the rights of unsigned prospects. These guys are invited to training camps but can't play in the NHL or AHL until they are signed to a contract.
Once prospects are signed to a contract, they can be assigned to junior teams (before age 20), the AHL/ECHL (after age 20) or play in the NHL.
Ellis for instance is going to play in Hamilton next season. Or Habs if he mutates into an NHL ready player. Its a formality to sign him basically.
Rights to non junior players are different but players who played canadian junior hockey must be signed before 21 or 22 or we lose their rights. Signing Ellis is a formality and expected because he's a good prospect, still its nice to see he's developping fast enough to become a pro player.

Definitely. Hamilton is going to be fun to watch for a couple years with Kristo, Beaulieu, Tinordi, Gallagher and Bournival coming up too. Finally some good prospects in the farm.
