Penguins Trivia!

Post Pittsburgh Penguins Trivia here. I think it'd be a good way to kill time this non-season.

Mario Lemieux wasn't the first Lemieux drafted by the Penguins. Ron Lemieux was a defenseman drafted in the 9th round in 1970.

Chris Thorburn's first NHL goal was assisted by Crosby and Malkin.

In the DVD extras for the movie The Prestige, you can see a staff member wearing a Mario Lemieux jersey.

Here's a few other facts that I find funny/interesting:

The Pens have not had a legit 1st overall pick since 1984.

Fleury is the only goalie that was picked number 1 overall to win a cup ring

Maatta was the 1st Finish player selected in the 1st round by the Pens

From 1967 to 1989, the Penguins picked only Canadians in the 1st round. That trend was broken with Jagr

Craig Muni holds the franchise record for most games played without ever scoring a goal. Muni went without a goal during the entire 1996-97 season playing in 64 games.

Dennis Bonvie holds the franchise record for most games played without a point. Bonvie played 31 games with the Penguins from 1999-2001 and never recorded a point with the team.

Mario holds the franchise points record with 1723 points. He leads second-place Jaromir Jagr by 644 points. This lead is 8 points greater than 3rd place Rick Kehoe's career point total, who finished his Penguins career with 636 points.

Mike Comrie scored the first goal of any kind at Consol Energy Center.

That'll be a toughie in 20 years.

I don't think we'll be bringing up the opening of Consol too often

The only two NHL players born in South Korea, Jim Paek and Richard Park, were both drafted by the Penguins.

On December 15th, 2006, Ryan Malone scored his first NHL hat trick, against the New York Islanders. With this feat, Malone and his father, Greg Malone, became only the second father-son duo in NHL history to score hat-tricks for the same team, along with Ken Hodge, Sr. and Ken Hodge, Jr.

Mike Comrie's first goal and only goal as a Penguin was during the Penguins' final regular season game, on an empty Atlanta Thrashers net. It was his last goal in the NHL and the last against the Thrashers.

Ummm...

EDIT: HA! Nevermind... the first goal of any kind. It was an exhibition game. The Wings, I think.
