He definitely wouldn't hurt the States though if they do end up needing him. His skill set does fit well for international ice, he's a lot faster than people give him credit for, which is going to be crucial for any teams defence.

I got no real problems with Butler, just wayyy too much talent out there still for him to make this squad..

with that announcement, I guess Wheeler, Stafford, and Pominville will not play....we have a lot of wingers already, pretty much no room for all of them since they announced Atkinson, Thompson, and Dwyer

Taking all three would be tough at this point but I doubt all three would want to go anyway. You'd like to keep at least 1-2 F positions open for any players eliminated in the playoffs. I'm not real worried about Stafford but I hope one of Pominville/Wheeler wants to join.

I like Bachman as a #3, but if he is our #1, we can be in deep crap. I would be shocked if Montoya doesnt come on board, but even then I hope he is our #2 with gettig a Quick or Howard/Anderson after a first round loss...

the longer Byfuglien takes to make his decision, the better...as long as we continue to bring in some highend skill, I think Big Buff will come on board to get his name in good graces with USA Hockey.
Not really. At the very least you could have him anchor the 4th line (which would be ideal).

I agree that if he is anything more than a 4th liner it doesn't look good. That said-I believe that will be his role and good for him. He's worked hard to be a contributor at the NHL level.
Sounds like they're hopeful of adding a goalie after NHL first round. Also, probably means not much interest in Montoya. I'd rather add the veteran in Boucher and hold out for a legit #1 anyway.
It was reported by the local reporter Chip Alexander. It didn't say if he was even offered or not but just that he wouldn't play.
Rutherford said in his end of season Press Conf. that McBain was asked, but isn't playing because of his concern of contract status (he's a RFA). I assume that means he doesn't want to risk injury without a contract in place.
