April 20 update: JVR removed from LTIR, will play tonight (foot surgery, March 6)

March 2, 2011 update:

VIDEO -- http://www.csnphilly.com/blog/flyers...12&feedID=6572

Quote:
James van Riemsdyk will undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his left foot on March 6 and is expected to miss four to six weeks, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren.
Chronology, March and April 2012:
  • March 1 -- Blocked a shot vs. NYI and did not return.
  • March 6 -- Had surgery due to a broken bone in his left foot; out 4-to-6 weeks.
  • March 8 -- Was placed on the LTIR.
  • March 26 -- Was seen at a home game still in a walking boot.
  • April 6 -- Visited doctor for possible cast removal.
  • April 9 or 10 -- First day of skating.
  • April 14 -- Met with media after skating. From Tim P. @ CSN: "JVR is still wearing protective gear, such as a shell on his left skate boot during practice, and has a modified walking boot. In other words, while he is skating, he is likely not at 100 percent. Yet."
  • April 17 -- Skated at practice on rotating lines. One set included JVR, Read and Rinaldo.
  • April 19 -- Practiced on a line with Read and Voracek. A possibility of return for Game 5 at Pittsburgh.
  • April 20 -- Removed from LTIR.

Dude seems cursed this year. Guess he is likely done until near playoff time?

James van Riemsdyk’s season is not getting any easier.

In the first period of Thursday night’s game against the Islanders, van Riemsdyk blocked a Milan Jurcina blast from the point and broke a bone in his foot, according to Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren.

Originally, van Riemsdyk tried to remain on the bench to fight through the pain but soon left to get x-rays taken.

For now, the Flyers have offered no timetable for his return. He will be re-evaluated by Dr. Steven Raikin on Friday.

Van Riemsdyk, 23, just returned to the lineup on Feb. 18 after missing 15 straight games with a concussion. Previously, he missed 5 games in December with a torn muscle in his abdominal region. We’ve also reported he has been hampered by a hip injury for the better part of the season.

Well rested yes. Playoff ready? I would not read too much into it.

Gotta feel for the guy no doubt.

On a lighter note, Sam Carchidi tweeted "Hartnell busted on JVR, saying it's a shame he broke his foot while blocking a shot for the first time"

I just feel really sorry for him. What an awful season he's having. This team really needs his playoff clutchiness, so I hope that foot heals mighty quick...
