Skating lateral

Any tips on skating lateral? I have trouble doing this exercise when skating, I can manage a few steps then have to turn forwards because I feel I may lose balance. My backwards cross-overs are ok, they still need some work but I manage. Sometimes when I'm trying to skate lateral I start going into a backwards crossover.. and suggestions? When skating lateral is it more on the toes? Do you pretty much just do side steps and not a full cross over? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

Good vid on how it's done. You could probably crossover both ways but this guy shows how to do forwards crossovers. I guess it depends on the situation. And yeah, lateral skating is more towards the toes when it comes to weighting.
