Grabbers...we finally agree on something..lol...
CP looks like *******......Morrissey gone south for sure....kolenda never threw a check i dont think....Darou looked like he mailed it in after getting scholarship...was minus four.....
Yetman....what is wrong with this kid....he gone further than south....bad very bad...
Hard to see really what goes on from watching on line...but a friend of mine was at game....said JC was emotionless.....
Being a valley guy i was at both games against Pembroke.....great atmosphere in both rinks....good hockey....was a chess match on Sunday...Dupis out dualed Yetman....but again no production from any line other than murphy edwards and olsen....
Lumberkings could get to finals just on Dupuis performance alone....only need to score one goal to win games in playoffs when you have goaltending like that!
Dupuis MVP!!!

Reason: filter circumvention
There is a lot of chatter on this site about Francis Dupuis of PLK as MVP with no mention of Lukas Hafner. Mr. Dupuis is a fine young man and an outstanding goalie most nights. However, he is not the # 1 goalie in the league and tonight against the Cornwall Colts, he looked just average.
The Colts soundly beat PLK 4 to 0 tonight and L. Hafner picks up shut out # 5 to lead the league.
It is fact that Mr. Hafner is # 1 in games won, # 1 in GAA, # 1 in save percentage and # 1 shut outs. I believe Mr. Dupuis has two goose eggs for the year but he leads the league in games played.
We all understand a goalie is only good as the team in front of him, but please give Lukas Hafner some credit. What does he have to do, stand on his head and spit quarters too ?

Hafner does not play in front of a mediocre team. In fact, when several of his players were at Team Canada East camp the Colts did not win many games from what I can remember.

There is no comparison IMO.
You are absolutely right. Mr. Hafner plays in front of a superb team.
I suppose if you eliminate the #1 line from any team in the league, that team and goalie would have major challenges to win games too.

Your right...but Pembroke does not have a number one line...a real hard working bunch of third lines......They dont score goals.....when Spinks were gone to Team Canada East....colts went in the tank and Hafner could not stop a beach ball.....what is going to happen to them next year when they are gone????
I was at the PLK - Cornwall game last night and quite frankly you could have taken the goalie from the Ottawa Valley Titans, put him in net for Cornwall, and PLK still would have more than likely been shutout. I'm not exagerating....pretty much EVERY shot was from the high slot and directly into the Cornwall Goaltenders chest.
I'll give it to him that he had good rebound control.....but I wouldn't use this shutout on Pembroke as a showcase of how good he is.....he was nowhere near tested.
Don't know what Pembroke's deal was. They played a trap system almost all game......even when they were trailing 2-0. Just didn't look like PLK of recent weeks last night.
Anyone know why Packard didn't play? Injured? Suspended from the fight last weekend? Off ice antics?
Big game in Pembroke on Sunday. Hawks and PLK. If the Hakws can pull off a win they will clinch 5th place. Looks like the Braves and CP will come down to the wire as well for 3rd and 4th. Cornwall has locked 2nd I think.
I'm sure both the Braves and CP want to face the Hawks 1st rd. PLK still has a good amount of RBC experience still inteh line up and they have SK. Hawks have little playoff experience in thier line up. Best part of the playoffs though is that ANYTHING can happen!

I think he was suspended for the fight as he recieved the instigator, it was nice to see Pietro Antonelli and Milley will be back any game now.

You are absolutely right. With the Spink twins, Borkowsky and Baun going to Colgate next year, it will be a rebuild year. It is also likely that Hafner will be back in the USA at school too.
It will be an average year with an average team. Perhaps they can change their name to the Cornwall Stallions or the Cornwall Rangers.

Dupuis MVP!!!
Dupuis is certainly worthy Hardfacts (this we agree on) but Cowie is the highest point obtainer on the best team and Nepean has to be recognized with several year end rewards for their season (MVP, coach, and top D-man for sure).
Big production for CP last night and they started Barrick. He had a shutout going to the third. Darou did not dress so must be something going on (healthy? - more likely ill). Interesting is that CP had two goal games from four differant players and none were named Edwards (fantastic since November) or Morrissey (one goal and two points in his last eleven games). Let's see if they can do it against someone that matters (could crash against the Bears Sunday the way things are going for them). : )
Brockville shutout by Ottawa was a surprise for me. Not that Ottawa won the game but that the Braves didn't get any points in their home barn. They get the chance tonight in Ottawa at the return meeting. I was thinking a ton of points as kids on both teams jockey for top 15 or so scoring positions. Good for them to tighten it up as the playoffs approach. Not expecting the same tonight.
Nepean continues to wait - resting their players - preparing for their march to the RBC where Pete Goulet has been before in the past four years. The little things that coaches can control in the playoffs will prove to be the difference. Spinks playing 40mins per night againts PG's coaching and top ten players should result in my Raiders coming out on top. You can quote me and hold me to this in the spring (Nepean in Kanata @ the FP Cup as league champion that is!)

Cumberland starting an affiliate "backup" junior B goalie probably had something to do with CP offensive output.....

Some nights the puck looks like a beach ball and others it looks like a pellet. Mr. Hafner has very good rebound control and he is quiet. He is not flashy and does not flop around.
Notwithstanding, shut-outs are still a scarce commodity and should be appreciated. With 356 games played this season and each goalie has an opportunity for a shut-out that is 712 chances. There are 34 shut-outs to date in total or less than .0477%.
This is tier 1 Junior A hockey and PLK is highly skilled team. I don't care where the shots came from, you have to be on your game and skilled to stop all 25.
It is true you cannot judge any player or goalie from one game. But with 2 games remaining in the season for most teams, Lukas Hafner is clearly the # 1 goalie in the league playing in front of the 2nd best team.
Eddyshack, this is where you and I disagree. While there's no doubt Hafner is an elite goaltender the fact is if you removed him at the beginning of this year from Cornwall they are still a top tier team.
Take Dupuis out of the lineup this season and PLK doesn't come anywhere close to making the playoffs.

Like have said in the past, screaming are kids will not work, at this level or any level, jc should stick to gm duties only

He's stats are really all not that much different from last years goalie Pete Karvouniaris
YEAR GP W L OTL SOL SO GA GAA SV SV%

the real measure will be play-off time. I would have to say it looks like the team system that makes the goalie in Cornwall. Last year when the pressure was on they had some weak goals against which cause the series not to go to 7 in the finals.

The percentage of shutouts to games played to date is .0477. Only 5% of the games have resulted in a shutout. I fully concur that as a fan we should appreciate the individual and the team effort to successfully attain a shutout.
Your assumption is very close. The Colts have 2nd place locked up over CP. However, with 4 games remaining, the Braves could catch the Colts. The big but is that the Colts need to drop both of their remaining games against Kanata & Cornwall while the Braves win out. The Braves have the tougher games.

The Braves & Canadians will certainly have their hands full with whoever they face, in the 1rst round, of the Hawks or the Kings. One would consider that higher placed team should be successful but that's why the playoffs occur. The team that faces the Hawks will certainly have a lot of bumps & bruises once the playoff round is over. If the referees apply the rules the Hawks could be on the penalty kill on a very frequent basis.
Nep vs SF - 4 games no question
Corn vs Ottawa - Cornall in 5 - Ottawa goalie might steal a game
B'ville vs Pemb - Pemb in 6 - Frank Dupuis will win series
CP vs Hawk - Hawk in 7 - want to win more than CP players

I'm not sure what league you have been watching all year, other than the roses and gumdrops of Raiders nation, but at this level and major junior a good majority of coaches are extremely tough on their players....SK in PLK is 1of 2 coaches to make his team drive home in full equipment this year (the other being Anderson in Hawksbury) and is one of the hardest coaches I've seen on his players in a long time.....don't think he did to bad last year, if I remember correctly???
Every coach has a different way of coaching, and every year is different based on the level of skill you have in front of you. Clarke to my knowledge has been tough at times, but for the most part he's tougher on the stripes than his own players.
Maybe you should jump behind the bench for a season on love the boys to a championship....I truly doubt that it will work.
JC has also coached 8 kids to scholarships this year, so he can't be doing that bad a job!

Makes things very interesting for the PLK. Welcome back Jon. Let's hope the team can put a puck in the net now..

Nepean..agree...
Cornwall is six
Pembroke in 6...Dupuis wins series himself
CP in 6...not sure you know how players feel...unless your in the room with them.. according to point streak CP has only lost once to hawks and have out scored them 24 12....so i am going with CP...

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised....Ottawa with a second consecutive shutout win over the Braves with a 3-0 win (one into the EN).
Goaltending for Ottawa must have been over the top this weekend!
See AROUND THE RINK (Braves Blog site) for greater details I am sure.
