You honestly don't believe if you put both Suter and Parise on any team in the NHL with the exception of Columbus and a couple of others they wouldn't elevate that club to a contender. Wow....
Look at the Wild...they've been without 3 of their top 6 forwards since Christmas. You put Parise and Suter in that lineup and if they are healthy which most teams hope for at the start of the season and the Wild are top 4 in the West. Put both of them on Edmonton and they are likely a contender next year.
I can also say that based on last season when NJ was miserable until the last 30 games without Parise. This year with him in the lineup {and some other additions) the Devils are a cup contender.
This idea that you're going to shame other teams fans into thinking they have zero chance at Parise because he insists on playing for a cup contender shows the desperation of some fans.
he has repeatedly said that he wants to stay in NJ.
He very well may stay, but Gaborik was telling the fans here that he wanted to stay in MN the year he was approaching UFA status and we all know how well that went. I don't believe he even listened to the Wild on July 1.
If for some reason, the cap goes up $5 million, I could see Ray Shero moving Paul Martin and finally getting Crosby his first legitimate scoring winger since Hossa.
Hossa repeatedly said he wanted to re-sign in Pittsburgh. he said it up until he signed in Detroit.
Don't take everything a player he says as gospel when it comes to who they want to sign with, because they have to say they want to remain with the team they're on.
Honestly, have you ever heard of a player talking about wanting to sign with another team while they were still under contract?
what am I taking as gospel? the guy asked if Parise had said anything one way or the other, and he has. that is all that I said.
No offense to New Jersey fans intended, but I think if NJ wants to sign him, Lou needs to show Parise that the team's not going to be floundering in mediocrity & will make moves to become serious cup contenders in the very near future.
I'm not sure how they'd do that, but I think maybe getting a true number 1 center would help their cause a lot.

If the cap goes up 5 million (and reports say it will), I think the Pens could offer him something like 7.5 million a year without even trading Martin. Of course the following year they'd probably have to trade Martin so that they could give Staal & Crosby their raises, but Despres & Morrow should both be vying for a spot by then.

the team has a very bright young future, and Parise is a part of it. I think he sees what the team can do, whether it be the 2nd half last year (without him) and the playoff spot this year. plus with the development of guys like Larsson, Henrique, Josefson, etc. it will only get better

Not as good of a future as the Rangers though. Who knows what will happen with the Devils when looking at what is going on with their ownership.
Highly respected player agent Ritch Winter once said in reference to Comrie that he wanted to big a 'big star on a big stage'. I think Parise fits that bill very well, and the Rangers will be giving out alot of them to Parise in July.
Would anybody be pissed if Parise pulls a Hossa; signs a fair value deal for 1 year with the clear cut stacked team in an attempt to get a cup then go out and get his big money contract?

That would probably help New Jersey more than anyone else. Let Zach sign a 1-year deal with Nashville or St. Louis. It gives the Devils more time to sort out the ownership situation, find a replacement for Brodeur, and let our young talent develop and mature. Then he can come back and it'll be like nothing happened.

just saying..any team to add a top LW and top pairing dman in the nhl would become a contender
Sadly, I think he'll end up with the Rangers, especially if the Rags flame out before the conference finals. They have only $50m committed to next season's cap. Other than Del Zotto, who's still a RFA with no arbitration rights, and thus has limited leverage, there's nobody of significant consequence to re-sign--Prust is a nice player, but he won't cost an arm and a leg. I can see them giving him a deal similar to Richards' deal. And if they need to cut salary this summer or next, they have guys like Dubinsky who'd be attractive to other teams.
Though I can't stand them, I think the Rags can give him more money and stability than the Devs, and an opportunity to win, as well. If he does, in fact, leave the Devils, I think he ends up with the Rags over teams like Minnesota and LA because it'd be a pretty easy transition--better travel, familiar with region, can keep living arrangement the same, etc.

One could argue that we'd also have to add a goaltender that can at least manage to consistently stay above a .900 SV%. But the point can otherwise stand as written.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
NJ or NYR. Maybe a possibility of a Detroit or Pittsburgh if he signs a lowball contract ($6M) and those teams are able to clear space. But, all being said and done, I think it's the Rangers who will win it.

The Wings have plenty of cap space. No need to clear anything.
If the cap is going up 5 mil Canucks could make one hell of a case for Parise to sign in Vancouver, he could play with Kesler and Booth and not have the weight of the team on him with the Sedins and Burrows, re-sign Pahlsson to play with Higgins and Hansen on the 3rd.
