The happiest person right now is Bob Murray. He gets a free pass on giving RC that extension.

man what you guys are saying is making me smile so much

it's basically everything i've been begging for

with wilson it was no structure, run and gun style. we were the softest team in the league and our d men were constantly exposed.

RC might be tough but this team needs that, we desperately need structure.

The only time he played a trap in Anaheim was when the Ducks were devastated with injuries. So, no.

So, he at least enforces something that resembles a defensive system and physical edge?

Yes to both. He also holds his players accountable, and always likes matching up lines. If the players buy in, I think Carlyle will give you a team that is always dangerous come playoff time.

I hope the Leafs are good at penalty killing because the Ducks were the most penalized team under RC's watch. For some reason, they take a lot less penalty playing for BB...even though its the same freakin players.

I think they should give us Gardiner back, since they get Carlyle.

Completely agree.

Thanks for the insight Ducks fans. Wilson's run and gun coaching style was extremely frustrating, and by the sound of it, Carlyle is the exact type of coach I (and others) would want for the Leafs.

Hmmm doesn't sound like RC is suited to coach this team. We've got probably the fastest team in the league with little size to speak of so it's hard to tell how a dump and chase/cycle system will work. On the other hand it's nice to hear that he does well with youngsters and emphasizes defense.

He had a fast team in 05-07, and they used their speed pretty well.

I don't what he did in ANA but Lupul forechecks very well for us. He's really been our best all around player. I think it has more to do with chemistry with Kessel and Phil coming in to his own.

I hope whatever beef they had can be forgotten. It seems by description they should get along. Plus Lupul has Leaf seniority on him.

Lupul didn't like to work. Carlyle wants his players to work.

We'll see how they get along. I'm doubtful. I'm not sure Kessel will work well either. But if Lupul really changed then it might be OK.

He just didn't have enough chemistry with our top lines, and there were rumors that his partying carried over from Philly, which probably led to some of the personal conflicts. I wouldn't freak out or anything, I get the sense that he's settled down a bit since his last trade.

Yep, Andy McDonald in particular thrived under Carlyle, had his best years here.
