I can see Semin's warts, but I can also see his attributes. For this season, he'd be a helluva lot more helpful to a Cup run **this year** than his replacements Wolski and Crabb.

Not sure how you can refute that.
All things being equal, I think most would take Semin back. If there was no salary cap and the team could afford it sure why not. Sadly in the Salary Cap era, you can only hitch your wagon to few key big $ guys on each team. Semin proved he wasn't that guy here. It's not like it was some rush to judgement.

I actually think Semin really more than any Capital benefitted from his time under Hunter. I think he's learned he's got to put in an honest effort every night. Now if he can do that and stay healthy, he should have a great season in Carolina. He's just only done that 1 year in Washington and that ultimately cost him his roster spot.

For a guy who was hated so (totally scapegoated and misused), he sure gets talked about alot even when he's gone and helping the Canes in all aspects of their game. I liked Semin alot. The problem never was Semin nor Ovechkin now. Toxic, disfunctional organization that don't have a clue is (more likely, they have a clue and don't care). As long as the fans keep supporting this, nothing will change. I don't foresee many making a stand against the Caps, just yapping so, things will stay the same. No chance to be a competitive team in this league. Therefore, if I were A.O. I would be seriously looking at my career. A player of his abilities will never be able to transform this team alone no matter what. Alex Semin is gone and should be for his sake. I couldn't be happier for him. He should have left two years ago. Ovechkin needs to get the hell out of there, yesterday! Fan support is always the bottom line and if that continues, get used to the basement.

He's talked about because McPhee hasn't replaced him. Semin's biggest fans are still pining over the loss because the void is still there. A lot of this is on the organization sure, but the star players are culpable too, Semin included.

O.K. right and most agree. So, how to accomplish that and what is really being done to affect the possibility of that happening? This entire thread and others have shown that the fans on this forum want a re-vamp of management. I would venture to say that the majority of fans don't know or don't care. That's the problem.

I would venture to say that the one person in charge of making that firing decision doesn't know or care... You could pack the Verizon with 20,000 people with "Fire George" written across their butt cheeks and it still wouldn't matter.

Speaking of which. I am in the Philadelphia area and have not attended any games so far this season. Are there any "fire George" (or related) chants happening these days?

I wanted to trade Semin last year and I didn't want the Caps to give him a multi year deal for high money. But, sure, a 1yr deal with Ribs here would have been great. Entering March the team could have been:

Laich-Ribs-OV
Brow-Nicky-Semin
Chim-Beags-Hendricks
Ward-MP-Fehr
(Crabb/MoJo)

Get Orlov back and add a D at the deadline and that's a good team.

Except for the fail that would have still been in net. I love how the Caps always have young guys mentoring younger guys.

rocky....the capitals vp and general manager does not trade assets particularly top level assets without dick patrick and ted leonsis signing off on it. usually its just a rubber stamp. but if leonsis were serious about firing mcphee or if a deal appeared to be desperate and dangerous or worse, leonsis would not allow it. zhitnik for coburn would not happen here. i am fairly sure.

It shouldn't matter. I actually think it might though.

I love how many around here feel the average Caps' fan sitting in Verizon Center each game is so tuned into what McPhee has done and not done in his tenure as GM and is just looking for a reason to start a revolution...

Ted DOES care what people say, maybe too much. He'll care even more if the money stops rolling in and his attendance trump card goes away.

Fine if he was a monkey picking banana's on an island. Not so fine if you're a GM trying to win a Cup for 15 years.

You might be ashamed until you got your settlement check.

Besides, it's not like Leonsis doesn't have a lot of girth to manhandle an average sized guy....
