What does that even mean? We're not as talented as the Flyers, Rangers, or Sabres for that matter and the line up you posted really doesn't make us much better.

If he would score as much FOR the Islanders as AGAINST them, he would be a fantastic aquisition!

Cory Sarich is a big, gritty, right handed defensive defenseman. He would look nice on our third pairing. Whoever is going to be on the left side of our third pairing next year is going to be a smaller PMD and Sarich would balance out that pairing nicely and allow for whoever it is to due their thing. Kind like Streit and Staois except you need both of your top pairing defenseman to be able to move the puck, which is why we suck.

I'd honestly have Ullstrom on the second line left wing where I'm pretty sure is where Malone would play

Are you sure you aren't remembering Sarich of 3 years ago? Calgary fans have been less than pleased with him this year. I have NOT watched any Calgary games that were not against the Isles so I am not talking from experience this year either, but the faithful in Calgary... Not sure if he is worth much anymore.

A real contender starts from the top with a good owner, followed by a good GM, coach, scouts, etc, so until a good owner comes, we probably won't be a real contender

why does every thread have to be polluted with these wang must go rants. We get it. we cant change it. we're trying to address personnel in this thread, i think!?

telling us that wang should be fired is like telling a fry cook at McDonalds that they should fire Ronald McDonald. good luck with that.

How has your wife/GF not killed you yet? It's March and you still have your christmas lights up.

Anyway, yeah I agree with you. Isles need a lot more firepower then what the OP provided in order to insert themselves into next seasons playoff race. They need at least a #2 center, and a top pair Dman. I say that assuming PAP & Nabby will be resigned. If not, then they'll need a top 6 winger & a #1 goalie too.

I am never one to rush to Wang's defense, but if we've somehow managed to draft a good core through the years, I can see this organization ponying up the dough to keep their homegrown players.

Outside of Tavares, our first round picks have largely struggled, but we seem to have done a fairly decent job in the rounds after the first. It's a risk, and it's painstaking, but if it works, I think the money will be spent on them.

This definitely looks like the plan that's been set forth. All we need now is for the prospects to pan out.

I would re-sign Nabby and PAP. I mean, Snow pretty much has to at this point. He didn't trade them and this team can't afford to let them walk without getting anything in return.

Aside from that, I'd try to sign Jiri Hudler. I think he'd put up huge numbers as a top 6 forward for us. I'd spend any remaining budget room on the blue line. No more Jurcina, Eaton and Staios. How about de Haan, Donovan, and Ryan Suter instead? As far as Suter being "realistic," I'd also be willing to bet that the Islanders will offer him more money than any other team, but who knows if he'll have any interest in signing?

That is, however, a playoff team in my opinion. Sign Hudler and Suter.

Despite everything this season, I feel that if Snow could ever manage to resign Nabokov and Parenteau and then sign Parise and Suter, then this team is a playoff team - maybe even one that can make music in the playoffs if Ullstrom, Cizikas, de Haan and one of Poulin/Nilsson can make strong contributions here in smaller roles next season.

Naturally, Snow will have to round out the defense, prolly by resigning guys like Eaton and Jurcina, but the rest of the pieces would be in tact if the signings above could be made.

Wow, that would be some offseason. Would LOVE to see that, but unfortunately I think we are lucky if we get one and that would be either Nabby or PA.

Care to put down the % chance you think exists that they really make a pitch for Parise and Suter, along with the % chance either signs here? We use hope for this club the way cults use purple Nikes to walk up to the mother ship. I hope good things as well, but reality shoots my hope like Vinny Two fingers in the Valentines Day Massacre.

I'd rather Garth take a shot at a shiny, new, UFA defenseman like Brett Clark, Shane O'Brien, or Barrett Jackman. Also maybe Stephane Robidas could be a target as he in the last year of his deal (I think), but might have a NTC. Also, Wideman or someone else I forgot SHOULD be a target. And, (swallows) Cory Sarich.

Count of one of our PMD to be on the bottom pairing too

So we can't change our ownership but we(as fans) can change our personal?

The fact is as long as Wang is the owner we will not be competing for a cup. We will add players that have much higher cap hits than their salaries show, just like we have over the past 3 years.

I would love to see them get someone like Parise or Suter, even if it meant giving them 8 mill a year, but the fact is that they won't come here, and we will end up resigning the likes of Jurcina, Staios, and Pandalfo with inflated contracts.

Parise 15% chance
Suter 7% chance

Each would probably only be signable if they were getting an average of 9 million per over 3-5 years.

Worth it?

As soon as Snow comes to July 1st talking HARD to Parise and all the BEST UFA's with real money, the ball starts rolling. I think Snow offered up a contract to Erhoff and then did NOTHING afterwards.

Had he pushed HARD, swore to the UFA's he was going into the upcoming season to win it all, I'm sure he gets some help.

But the league knows cheap, old retreads are our modus operandi. Spend the summer NOT SIGNING ONE HACK and it goes a long way.

Act like a real GM and a real Professional organization, you start on the road to being seen as one.

I'd do it. We need to spend to the cap floor. We need defencemen. And we NEED to make a statement to the league that we're here to play, and are not getting either of them unless we go to that pricing zip code.

Exactly, is Snow capable of being a GM of that level? I am not so sure, he hasn't proven that he can or cannot be that good.
