- Kings beat SJ on thurs. in regulation.

That would leave the standings as follows:

LA 95
SJ 92
PHX 91*
DAL 89

*while PHX does have enough games in-hand to catch the Kings, they would win on tiebreakers.
Nashville doesn't have to beat Dallas in that scenario. Also, as long as SJ wins, it does not have to be in regulation either.

Basically, if LA wins at least 1 game in regulation against SJ, Phoenix blows 2 points in their remaining 3 games & Dallas blows at least 1 point in their final 3, LA wins the division.

Any combination of Kings points achieved and Stars points lost that totals three will clinch the Kings a playoff spot.

Two ROW against San Jose will clinch the division.

Hm - by my math, the Kings' magic number for the division is _4_, not 3... If the Kings get only three points and the Coyotes win out, then the 'Yotes win the division outright. And technically, it's not a "pure" four point magic number... if the 'Yotes win out in regulation, they'll have 97 points and 36 ROW. If the Kings sweep San Jose, but both in the shootout, they'll have 97 points and 35 ROW, and the 'Yotes would win the division on that tiebreaker.

So, the "magic scenario" to clinch the division is two ROW.

Appears you are correct. I glean that info from the Mayor Bee thread in the NHL forum. I've let him know and I've updated the post.

If Dallas loses tonight are we then secured a PO-spot, because of ROW (if they then win the remaining games)?

We would need one more point in addition to their loss, but yes, Dallas losing takes care of the heavy lifting.

Their magic number is 2. 2 wins against San Jose. Period.

Or Dallas and Phoenix lose tonight and we win against San Jose Thursday. That's the Division.

I am looking for a San Jose win in Dallas, Phoenix losing any of their remaining 3 games in regulation, and a Kings win in regulation against the Sharks on Thursday.

That equals Pacific Division Champions!

Yea Coyotes have the easiest schedule. So ANY stumble from them would be great.

No, not period. 2 _ROW_, yes, but if one or both are SOW, then we're at the mercy of other tiebreakers.

I would love to just see the Kings win out, and not give any of the other teams a chance to do anything about the Kings being Pacific Divison Champs.

I'd also like it if Kopitar does a spin on the Sharks logo at center ice once the game is over.

I'm praying for the same thing. I know people around here love to befriend the Sharks fans and I'm sure they are nice people but **** the Sharks and the ocean they swam in on. I'd personally rather see Dallas make the playoffs because I think they are going to lose in the first round. Also, if the Sharks miss the playoffs, where do they go from here? I personally think they have done too many tweaks the past few seasons. They had great teams for the past 5 years or so and every summer they seem to want to change things up and I think that hurt them. I think they were better off sticking with what they had rather trying for the new flavor of the month.

To be fair, I've wanted that all year. If they were 0-79 right now, I'd still want that. No remorse for them.

Yeah I agree, besides games 2 and 5 that series really sucked, I mean no Kopi, game 3, the 5 min PP in game 6, Thorton with the OT winner. That was awful...

Although I do like the Sharks and their fans...I just have a bitter taste in my mouth after last year.

Yeah, I think Wilson is guilty of overthinking things a bit. He has changed the ingredients too many times over the last 2-3 seasons.

My wife says that I still mutter in my sleep - game 3...game3...game3

What are you referring too? Was my mind so traumatized that I am forgetting something from that series?

Thornton sliding on at center ice after their OT win...I'm not going to post this as an image for those who don't want to look.
http://cdn3.sbnation.com/imported_as...483/iljzxa.gif

and let's not forget all the gifs sharks fans made of him sliding across other things...it was painful
