Why can't the Oilers blow a two-goal third period lead against us like that?

Didn't the Kings blow a 3-0 lead against the Coyotes?

By my math, as of this instant, the Kings have 10 games remaining, and a magic number of 20 points....

Back in control of their own destinies, before even playing any of the SJS games!

Also, if the Kings DID manage to go 10-0 in the remaining games, they would only need Dallas to lose two points (SJS would already have lost at least three by nature of the sweep) to have the Kings win the division -- so, an effective magic number of 23 to win the division.

Updates from action tonight.

Chicago – Games remaining: 9. Magic number: 25
Dallas – Games remaining: 10. Magic number: 21
Los Angeles – Games remaining: 10 Magic Number: 20
San Jose – Games remaining: 10. Magic number: 20 (-2)
----------------------------------------------------------
Phoenix – Games remaining: 9. Elimination number: 20
Calgary – Games remaining: 9. Elimination number: 18
Colorado – Games remaining: 8. Elimination number: 18
Minnesota – Games remaining: 10. Elimination number: 10
Anaheim – Games remaining: 8. Elimination number: 9
Edmonton – Games remaining: 10. Elimination number: 4
Columbus – ELIMINATED

LA Kings W = 2 points off of ALL opponents’ magic numbers
LA Kings OTL = 1 point off of ALL opponents’ magic numbers
LA Kings L = 0 points off of ALL opponents’ magic numbers
Opponent W = 0 points off of their magic number
Opponent OTL = 1 point off of their magic number
Opponent L = 2 points off of their magic number

Moved the Kings to 7th because they have more real wins.

If that or anything else is wrong, have at it Tony.

My math still comes up with a Magic Number of 20 points for the Kings, not 21 -- Colorado's max (10th) is 99 points, and Phoenix's max (9th) is 101, meaning 102 (20 more points) would clinch... unless I'm missing something...

(Looking at paces, I still get 6-4 for the record necessary to make the playoffs, and 7-3 as the record needed to push Dallas out of the division title).

Tomorrows game COULD be the difference between 7th and 11th place in the standings for our boys ... to say it's a BIG GAME = Understatement.

Wow, Sharks went down 18% after today's games. Every team they're fighting with got a point today but them.

Kings magic number: 17 points (record of 8-0-1)

On projections, 5-4 in the remaining nine games to make the dance, 6-3 to take the Pacific.

Dallas and Los Angeles have fairly similar schedules. Both play Sharks twice, Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Blues.

LA has Boston, A 2nd Oilers game, and Minnesota
DAL has a 2nd Oilers and Canucks game, and Nashville

On a day like this, I REALLY hate those three point games more than most days. Glad I'm not a sharks fan.

Who owns the tie breakers between us and the teams we could finish tied with (SJ, PHO, COL, DAL, CAL)?

First tie breaker is ROW (Regulation/OT Wins). Right now it looks like the Stars would win most tie breakers (33ROW, 73gp), Kings would be second (31ROW, 73gp). Both CGY and COL have 31 ROW, but have 74, 75 gp respectively. PHO has 30 ROW in 74gp, SJS has just 29 ROW in 73gp.

So yeah, if a game gets to OT (not involving Kings) cheer for it to go to SO

If Dallas is going to win any more, I hope it's in the shootout. The ROW is the only tiebreaker they have on us and even that's down to 33-31. We own the head-to-head record w/ Dallas and we have a better goal differential by 14.

This team can win the division. We're right there, knocking on the door!

We need some HansH in here with his percentage chance to make the playoffs as well. I assume we must be close to 60% now.

It's 70.7% right now. No meaningful games tonight.

A 6-3 record has them at 99.8% chance to make the playoffs (96 points)

5-4 puts them at 89.5% (94 points)

If I were a betting man...

I'd say Phoenix, Us, and Calgary make the playoffs. Colorado, San Jose, and Dallas just have too many games left (or too few in the position of Colorado) where they can fall significantly behind, not to mention difficult opponents.

Also, we and Phoenix have 3 games against teams out of the playoffs for good.
