Honestly, if we can't win 5 of the next 9, we probably shouldn't be in the show anyways. I think we'll be alright though.

Hey I have a OT question. I keep hearing Kopitar's first named pronounced differently.

Anze = On-jay
Anze - On-za

Which one is it?

Looking at our schedule matched up against the others. I think we are in REALLY good shape. I might not have said this if we hadn't gone 5 in a row....but our looks very good unless we do something stupid like lose all 3 games against Edmonton and Minny.

If we can take 2 points out of the next 2 games, win the 3 against edmonton (2) and Minny. I am confident we make the playoffs as a 7-8 seed.

Toooo many other teams have swing games. Especially San Jose. I think they run themselves out of the playoffs in 2-3 games.

Listen this commentary

In Slovenia is pronunced like that. On-jay is not right.

What makes you think the Slovenian Announcer is pronuncing it correctly ?
Just because he's from Slovenia doesn't mean he is ya know

I appreciate the shout-out, but I'm more the "projected standings" guy than the "percentage chance" guy -- hasn't Sydor25 been doing those?

No. of 4 point swing games: 7
No. of games against upper seeded opponents: 3
Looks like 8 of 9 games vs. upper-seeded opponents.

If the division is within reach, and it is, that is what/who we need to target.

Do tiebreakers make the difference? Don't know, 'cause there's no explanation of why the Kings make it with 93, but both the Sharks and the Flames need 94.

If they keep playing the way they've been playing, it doesn't matter what the schedule is, they'll make the playoffs easily.

If they start playing the way they were playing before, it doesn't matter what the schedule is, they won't make the playoffs.

It's all about the Kings at this point. To simplify further, it's all about Kopitar/Brown. If they keep up their recent play, playoffs are not going to be a problem and a division title is likely.

I think what Mittens means to say is that LA has the 8th seed at 93 points, so for anyone else to get in and bump them out, they'll need 94 points.

Not saying I agree with him, just saying what I think is on his mind.

Frankly I'm shocked he didn't say we'd go 0-9 to wrap up the season, tail spin into a top five pick, all because we didn't have enough puckmoving defensemen and that the Kings can never do anything right.

The pronunciation of his last name was even more interesting...

There are far too many variables involved when you are talking about a hockey game, thanks to the asinine rules where some games have more points than others.

It was fairly easy in the old days, when each game counted two points, period.

But now, you have to assume all the games will be three points, and as I believe someone mentioned above, only the Kings have been getting regulation wins these days...just about every other WC game that means something has been 3 points.

For my purposes, I am just going to assume that all the WC games not involving the Kings are going to be 3-pointers. Which simply means the Kings control their own destiny. They must keep winning, and if they do (on a consistent basis), they will win the division (to hell with an 8th place finish).

It' just too basic to be meaningful. What you really want is to project based on the points-earning pace over the course of a season. Assuming each team continue to earn points at their current rates, here's where teams will fall at the end of the season:

------------PTS/G PRJ
1. STL (C) 1.351 111
2. VAN (NW) 1.301 107
3. DAL (P) 1.164 95
4. NAS (C) 1.260 103
5. DET (C) 1.257 103
6. CHI (C) 1.227 101
7. LAK (P) 1.151 94
8. PHX (P) 1.135 93

I prefer to use the points-earning pace over the last 5-10 games, will that work for you guys?

Exactly.

Who cares how SJ played in December, right now they are not a good hockey team.
