But, that problem was made worse considering Coburn was injured as well.
You implied earlier that this is higher than you could justify drafting Timonen. Why is that? I think he's a very good pick here, though I do think people are probably overrating his puckmoving skills at even-strength.

I was tempted to draft him and uncovering if one season of All-Star play at defence on two season should make him good enough to be a regular ATD defenceman, or if he has better use as a playmaking left winger. If anything, Tommy Anderson is perhaps the best bench player available.
And it's not like his time at LW was impressive. IIRC, he received three total votes for AS LW in his entire career. But his 1941-42 was a legit great season - he scored quite a bit more as a defenseman than he ever did at forward and actually finished top 10 in overall league scoring - I'm pretty sure he's the only defenseman other than Eddie Shore who did that between the 1926 consolidation and WW2.

It's crazy how out of whack with the rest of his career that one great season was

I think Timonen is a Lidstrom-lite kind of player - plays relatively conservatively at even strength, providing supporting offense but not getting all that involved in the attack.

And honestly, I prefer that on my bottom pairing to a guy involved in the attack who might be a defensive liability

Thanks for announcing my pick. MacGregor should be listed as an F as he can play all 3 forward positions. For us he will be playing RW on our 4th line alongside Tommy Smith and Doug Weight, and will also play on our 2nd PK unit. Here is a little about him from Joe Pelletier (full bio to come)...

Quote:
In the 1960s and early 1970s speedy Bruce MacGregor was so fast he was nicknamed "The Redheaded Rocket."

MacGregor was a slick and speedy forward who was a coach's dream. He was never an outstanding scorer, topping 20 goals only three times in his 13 year career, but he would do anything the coaches needed him to do, and with great proficiency. Using his incredible acceleration and his equally impressive hockey sense, he was a great utility player, filling in admirably wherever and whenever the team asked him to. He was also a mainstay on the penalty kill unit.

I'm wondering this as well. Hobnob's team has 2 coaches already, can't see what they'd do with a 3rd.

Figured that Stammer was going to go soon. Not sure what to make of him yet other then he's a pretty damn good scorer, but not sure he brings much else.

When did Stamkos ever play enough LW to call him a C/LW?

At least Toews went before him, but there's at least one other modern center I would probably take ahead of Stammer.

Stammer seems very scoring line or bust to me.

I haven't watched much Tampa Bay this year, but how is Stamkos eligible at LW?

Agreed. In Round 19 I'm not gonna quibble with a scorer like him though. I wasn't around when Toews was picked and yes I'm a homer, but for a young player he brings leadership, a Cup, and a 59.4 FO% this season so in Round 18 I don't think he's a bad pick.

Scoring line or bust is right. He brings absolutely nothing else to the table in the ATD.

Then again, how many guys left bring 1*, 1, 2 goals finishes, and 2*, 5, 5 points finishes? (*this year) Putting it into perspective, Stamkos has already basically matched half of Bure's peak, brings more to the table away from the puck than Bure (IMO, although maybe not when career value is taken into account), and Bure was taken, what.. 400 picks ago? Damn good value for Stamkos here, if you have need of him.

Well, upon closer inspection, it's actually a lot closer than I thought (and looking at it like that, I think I'd probably take Stamkos ahead of him at this point).. but yeah.
